Mets Management Mea Culpa

Received the following email today, as I attend a few mets games this season. It is interesting how strongly worded it is, maybe a firesale is happening for shea this offseason?

Dear Mets Fan:

All of us at the Mets are bitterly disappointed in failing to achieve our collective goal of building upon last year's success. We did not meet our organization's expectations -- or yours. Everyone at Shea feels the same range of emotions as you -- our loyal fans -- and we know we have let you down. We wanted to thank you for your record-breaking support of our team this year.

Equally important, Ownership will continue its commitment in providing the resources necessary to field a championship team. Omar will be meeting with Ownership shortly to present his plan on addressing our shortcomings so that we can achieve our goal of winning championships in 2008 and beyond.

You deserve better results.

Many thanks again for your record-breaking support.

A friend sent this to me
And I posted it in the "Eamus Catuli" thread.  Pretty amazing to see that from an organization.

Bill Wrigley placed an ad
(Or was it P.K. Wrigley? Al, you'd know.) in the Chicago Tribune after the 1969 failure which echoes the theme of this one.

However, I remember the ad took a strange turn -- the copy said something to the effect "...if all the players had the same desire as Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, and Ron Santo.."

Did more harm than good, I believe.....

The next year -- another "we're sorry."

It's a post card -- dated October 2, 1970.

It has Cubs letterhead at the top:

Dear Chicago Cubs Fan:

Returned herewith is the payment that accompanied your application for 1970 National League Championship Series tickets. Thank you very much for your interest and loyal support throughout the season. We are sure you know all of us here as as disappointed as you these games will not be played in Chicago this year.

                    Sincerely,

                    CHICAGO CUBS

It's the first letter I have ever received containing the word "herewith."

Zambrano...
I am sure glad we already locked up Zambrano, the Mets might have broke the bank to get him.
LILLY!!!
