Cubs Fan Club

Okay, I've been going back and forth about joining  the Cubs Fan Club for the wonderfully low price of $19.95, but is it worth the money?

Has anyone else out there bothered to join? What kind of ticket offers and other benefits does the club provide?

I get the strange feeling that this is just a scam by MLB to get subscriptions to Game Day audio.

I'm interested in all comments.

Go Cubs!!!!

Well...
... considering GameDay Audio is $14.95, it's only an extra $5 for the Cubs Club. I joined. You get occasional chances to buy tickets to key games (I was able to get extras for some friends of mine for some weekend games this summer), and access to things like the webcams inside Wrigley Field. I thought it was worth the $20.

I say no
If you already get gameday video/audio then it's not worth it in my eyes.

I enjoy the post-game press conferences and the occasional editorials on the vine-line page.  However for $20 it wasn't worth my money.  I see them improving the site next year as they did throughout the season.

However, as per Al's comment, if you don't get audio and want it then I think it's worth the price.

Why does everybody stand up and sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" when they're already there? ~Larry Anderson

Thanks
I methodically checked all (OK, most) of the menus, and did a site search, with no luck. Didn't look there!

(Cubs.com has got to be one of "busiest" home pages out there.)

Cubs convention
Any indication whether the Fan Club will be offering members a chance at Cubs Convention tickets?

Not yet
Usually we would get an email about that.  I'll post something if I get one.  My guess is it could be 50/50.  We'd probably get an email saying "Limited Number of Passes".  Then we'd be put in a pool.

Ebay was my best bet last year.  Paid over $10 over the actual ticket price.

I belong
I haven't really done anything with it because of time but I thought it looked good.

As far as the convention goes I think the hotel is booked but next year consider getting a room.  You get 4 passes with it and if you get a couple of buddies the 200 dollar room cost for one night balances out almost.

And you get to have a lot of fun in the hotel.

I've been to every convention so far.  Had a blast in my early 20s hanging out all night with fellow Cub fans.  Made some friendships that are still going strong.

One friend I met at the convention we became such good friends we were bridesmaids in each other's weddings.

Discount
They also sent a 20% discount code for the MLB.com shop that I used to get a fairly substantial discount on the new jacket -

I say it's a good deal
I really like getting the Gameday audio with it. That's $14.95 alone. I listen to it at work or when the game isn't on TV. I rarely missed a game this year. They do send out some good e mails. There was recently one to get 20% in the MLB store. There were atleast three sent out with chances to get tickets for games. The card is nifty. You can get wallpaper for your computer that has Cubs Club on it too. Not a bad deal even if it is a scam for Gameday audio.
Anxiously awaiting the arrival of Opening Day '08
