Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

firejoemorgan.com with a hilarious post about JJ and Pie

Ken Tremendous skewers an article proposing that the Cubs make locking down JJ contractually a priority in the offseason.  He even gets into Pie's projections by the ends.  Just find it at firejoemorgan.com.  You need to scroll down to October 13th or so.  As usual, I had to agree with basically everything he said in it.

He claims that if Pie doesn't
turn into the next Willie Mays, he says that he will give everyone who reads that a $100, I'm going to hold him to that.

He also promises
a hundred thousand bucks and a tattoo of Joe Morgan covering his face if Pie doesn't become the next Reggie Jackson.

Pie has a lot to live up to
but I'd love to see him be comparable in his career to either Jackson or Mays.  I'd be awesome

What was the point of this comment...
... other than to come here and be snarky?

If you have something to add to the discussion, feel free. Otherwise, why bother?

History repeats itself
I've seen we've yet to learn the lesson of censorship in the media several times.  How'd that work out for you Al?  Someone posted a link that advanced or expounded on a discussion or created a new and wasn't the author of this diary treated snarkily?  Or is it just people that you dislike personally that get threatening comments posted to them?

by cubsfan2883 on Oct 15, 2007 9:43 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't know
who this guy is, but it looks like he was responding to another snarky comment by someone else.  Not saying it was appropriate, but I think if you're going to criticize one, then you should criticize the other.  Sorry if I'm out of line, but that's how I see it.

by jjmarie30 on Oct 16, 2007 12:59 AM CDT up reply actions

No, but...
...the link that was posted to FJM a while back not only was much more timely, but pointed to the exact article in question.

Without going back and reading every diary that
discusses this very situation, I'd say that KT hit the nail on the head. I'll be celebrating the day that JJ leaves the Cubs and takes his overpaidness with him.  Pie will give the Cubs JJ numbers for a fraction of the price, and the Cubs can take the money and piss it away on whatever they feel they need.  Like hey, maybe a SS that can hit, or ... hey a  corner OF'er that has an OPS of above .850, or .. maybe a closer that actually closes games.  Bizarre concept that is.

And before you guys skewer me and tell me we have Theriot, Floyd/Murton and Marmol.

A). Theriot dissapeared down the stretch and in the post-season.   and when I mean dissapeared I mean he was awful.

B).  Murton isn't the answer in RF.  Murton isn't the answer anywhere.. Murton is a good hitter, a patient hitter.  I like MM's ability to hit.. but he's not a very powerful hitter, and he doesn't play RF very well.

C).  You're willing to judge Marmol as a closer after one good season as a reliever.  That's cool.. i'm not.. I'd rather have a guy I know can shut down hitters, and leave Marmol in the 7th and 8th for now.

Sorry to everyone who was offended...
but I honestly could not find another post that scooped me on linking to the FJM article about the Cubs.  Either it is hidden really well or people are lying about this article appearing already on BCB.  At any rate FJM is one the the most well-written and insightful baseball blogs out there so I thought it was a real treat to see a Cubs article.

by Jerry Mumphrey on Oct 16, 2007 9:46 AM CDT reply actions

People
aren't lying and it's not hidden really well either.  A quick search turns up the following post from last week...

So what?
this is adding something new and I'm not and he should not be expected to do a search just to find out if something has been discussed or not. Get over yourself and just don't comment on it if you have nothing to say.

by cubsfan2883 on Oct 16, 2007 12:54 PM CDT up reply actions

I'll comment
on anything I feel like commenting on.  Last I checked you're not the content police around here.  It's YOU who needs to get over himself.

by cubsbak on Oct 16, 2007 1:13 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm not the one who is telling people
what they can and cannot talk about nor am I chastizing people for discussing a topic, no matter where else it is talked about. I am chastizing you for being a prick; however, thanks for your wonderful retort.

See, Al.  This is why you have to be even-handed.  You got snarkiness all around the board and you only punish the people that you have had past problems with.

by cubsfan2883 on Oct 16, 2007 3:10 PM CDT up reply actions

Tell me
where I say anything about who can discuss what?

I was just disputing the comment about everyone lying about whether the article had already been mentioned.  I frankly could care less how many times people discuss things.  I just thought it would be helpful to set the record straight since he was apparently under the impression that people were lying to him.

Then you come along, tell me that I'm not allowed to comment here, and now you're calling me a prick.  What the hell is wrong with you?

by cubsbak on Oct 16, 2007 3:36 PM CDT up reply actions

OOOOOOOOOOOOO
someone's gonna get a tongue lashing for that comment!

Seriously though, does anyone REALLY care whether this was posted before or not?  As far as I can tell, it hasn't been discussed way too much since some of us haven't heard about it.

enjoyed the diary
just because this may have been brough up in another thread doesnt mean that it wasnt worthy of posting, this pointed directly to an article, a hillarious one, thank you for posting.

i thought that article was genious, and brings up many valid points, most significantly that jj is a below average hitter with a below average arm and should be a bench player if anything on a winning team.

bring on felix, please.  heres a garauntee his power numbers will be better, his ops should easily match jj's and his defense will be superior
