Not the Japanese signing that I've been rooting for, but the Trib says the Cubs are angling for the services of Hiroki Kuroda. He'd be a full free agent if he exercises his opt-out clause, so no posting fee. The Mariners are the only competition mentioned.
The Cubs pursued him last year, but he elected to stay in Japan one more year. I'd be a little worried that his ERA has gone up more than a run and a half since then, accompanied with more walks and fewer strikeouts. But he's what I like to call "better than Jason Marquis."
