Chalk up another Washed up Cub going to Baltimore

http://netsports.baseball.com/default.asp?c=baseball&page=mlb/news/AAN4107968.htm

Wow, you would think that the Orioles have taken enough garbage off of our hands. This makes me really happy, and this means that all of Dusty's "favorites" are now gone. Coincidence? This proves that Dusty has no idea how to manage a team.

Got him before Dusty could!!
Remember Baker thought he had closer potential...I wonder if he did not favor black players somehow?

He looked like he could or should be a Lee Smith type but didn't impress for most part...good luck to him!!

I saw this earlier...
Seems like a fine move to me. That bullpen is a wreck, so I can see McPhail taking a flier on a known commodity.

by Damen Jackson on Oct 16, 2007 6:10 PM CDT   0 recs

"known commodity"
right. We know that he sucks.

Yes, but he's known to suck...
...less than Danys Baez and John Parrish.

especially after a year of injury
Sucky Novoa becomes extremely sucky Novoa after a season lost to injury.

Never could understand
the love affair with Nova that Dusty had. I thought Weurtz threw a lot of balls in the dirt, Nova had that 52ft splitter down.
Orioles are a mess. Thats why Tejada would be a good chance, 31, has played in baseball "hell", for the last 4 years, he would find life in Chicago, this is my hunch.

Would you trade
Cedeno for Tejada?  It seems to make sense to me. Baltimore gets a player with tremendous upside, Cubs get a proven player in need of a career resurgence.  Perhaps we could even throw in Marquis or Pignatello.

Cedeno-Tejada? straight up?
are you serious? Two years ago they wanted Zambrano, I don't think Cedeno would cut it..
Live is boring until March 31st strolls by..

You do kid right?...
Listen, Baltimore is in an absolute free fall. Realistically, they are looking at the AL East cellar next year, with no appreciable pitching heading their way to make that stay temporary. Now, they might kid the fan base with a couple of low end signings this off-season, and the hope of a .500 season. But with McPhail in, and the two-headed GM situation finally resolved, they may very well look to start over. Point being, Tejada and Roberts are about the only valuable chips they have, and they're going to want to hear about more than Ronny Cedeno to move them. You might trade Martinez, since it's such a weak catchers market, but I would think he'd stay to try and work with the young staff.

They are now to be called the Baltimore Cubs

Oops, I didn't see this diary - moved mine here.
Adios, El Gasolino.  He might have been my least favorite Cub since Mel Rojas.  That's right, worse than Hawkins.  It is amazing that a relief pitcher could give up 3+ runs four different times in a two month stretch, but that's what El Gasolino did between April 29 and June 19, 2006.

My one time seeing Novoa in person was in the 11-run inning disaster to the Mets on July 16, 2006. Sean Marshall ran out of steam and the Cubs down 6-5, and Dusty thought that bringing in Novoa would stem the tide. Because of course you want to bring in the reliever with the habit of tossing up a 3-spot.  Knowing better having seen Novoa make a mess on TV, I looked at my dad and said "game over."

Seven batters, five hits (including the second grand slam of the inning), six runs.  But because there were two out and there had been an error early in the inning, the runs were unearned.  Sure...

Anyway, via con dios, El Gasolino.  Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

It's a simple question, Doctor: would you eat the moon if it were made of ribs??
