Sox fan shows displeasure with Cubs at workplace
Ok, I just had to rant this to everyone. I work in an office/warehouse and our HR department has decided to have a Cubs Spirit Day tomorrow. It asks that those who work tomorrow to support the Cubs by wearing red and blue or things such as Cubs t-shirts and jerseys. A company wide e-mail was sent out, and a flyer was posted next to the time clock by our front door.
After I finished my lunch today I walk past time time clock to see the flyer vandalized. Someone scribbled in blue pen over the Cubs logo and the Division Champs logo, and also crumpled it all up and left it hanging on the cork board. Seriously, how pathetic is this? Note also, that when the White Sox got to the playoffs in 2005, the same spirit day was observed for them (I showed my spirit by wearing a Cubs hat, shirt, and even went as far as refusing to wear white socks that day, instead cubbie blue socks). When this Sox day was held here a few years ago did anyone screw around with that flyer? No. Not at all.
Who is really showing offf the stereotype classlessness today? I did find out it was in fact a White Sox fan who did it, and left the following post it note next to the crumpled flyer: "The vandalism displayed here is why Sox fans get a bad rep. I didnt know we had children working here."
End rant.

And yet further proof on why Sox fans....
I grew up on the South Side, but fortunately had an uncle who kept me from ever becoming a Sux fan by taking me to Cubs games growing up.
Your dept. should fire whoever did that!

Andrew...
This kinda stuff should be expected from Sox fans because of their infatuation with our stadium, our fans, and our team.
Enjoy the playoffs and forget about the Sox fans...they are at home watching us play.
Go CUBS.

Good deal...
One of my good friends is Sox fan, and the year they one, right after the final pitch was thrown in the series, my phone rang, and of course it was him. I ignored it because seriously, why are you calling me, go party with your Sox fans, but his first thought was to call a Cubs fan and rub it in. Just stupid.
Trust me the players are annoyed by the Sox fans as much as we are. Last year my first time throwing was down at the Cell and there were plenty of grumblings among the players about how annoying the fans were and the stupid things they would yell to the players. It was pretty annoying, because it never stopped.

family reunions must be a monster, dude ..
My SIL is a Sox fan and thinks we're all traitors because we lived in the South Side for a time before we moved to the Lynwood area and rooted for the Cubs. But she's diplomatic enough to bite her tongue ..

My family has lived on the south side of Chicago
My dad soooo enjoyed the ChiSox/Cubs series this year - but he never gloated, never harassed, just simply showed up at work in his non-garish Cubbie polo.
Contrast this with when the ChiSox won the WS. His co-workers instead of reveling in the fact that they had a great season decided to use all their energy to berate Cubs fans. In success or victory I've found few ChiSox fans who handle either with grace.
To the 23% of ChiSox fans out there who are cool - I am sorry to have not met you to help balance this opinion.

Didja ever thunk ..
... NOT ....
I think the Sox fan who likely did this has serious issues and needs therapy. They are probably the same loser who smears his boogers on the bathroom stall and after sex with his girlfriend tells his other girlfriend on his cell "baby, you my only one .. "

I dont support...
We had a Bears day last year, and a few people wore Packers. No big deal. But drawing all over an announcement flyer and crinkling it all up in a ball is quite different as most seem to agree.

Bit less childish wouldn't you say?
As for my experience...I work with 2 Sox fan chicks one of whom HAD to go with her Cub fan husband to a game recently. Got 2 row behind the plate and what did she have to say?
I have a list of complaints she said:
1. The fans all cheered after the first out of the game. You would have thought they won the game.
(SHAME on us for cheering!)
- Some woman on her cell phone too much (Okay, I hate this too)
- No African American people (in her general area...as if that is the Cubs or the fans fault).
- Some guy tried to high five her after the Cubs won and when she ignored him, he shoved her! (Had to laugh a bit inside and yet I can see being pissed)
NO. What a fan!

"sox fans are trash"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Butter_Battle_Book
At various times, at various blogs, I've been informed that Cardinal fans, cub fans, brewer fans, astros fans, sox fans, padre fans etc. etc. are all trashy or classless, or whatever.
While I suppose you can argue that fans of different sports are different (ie polo fans are more likely to wear a monacle than hockey fans), but baseball fans are baseball fans. This whole "lack of class" whine is pretty boring.

Yeah seriously Thelonious
But lets welcome you back to our world in 2007.
Most White Sox fans hate the Cubs, want nothing more then to crap on anything Cubs related.
If you dont like the fact that some people here are anti-White Sox, then maybe you should focus your attention to the ballclub that plays at US Suck field.

lol
I hate to sound all severe by bringing this up, but you do realize that hate groups essentially use some of the the same rationalization as you people. Take a bad subgroup and extrapolate that into your view of the entire group as a whole. Obviously, I'm not equating you guys with hate groups...merely pointing out that you're roughly that intelligent.
I guess I'm just suprised that actual adults completely forget themself when it comes to this sport, and act like fucking 9 year olds on the playground.
I do enjoy that you equate my feelings on this issue to my supposed worldview where there are "no wars" and "no fighting". Sure, that would be nice, but I'm pretty sure my original post was referring to petty dumbass adults who are completely unable to put sports into perspective.
The readership at this site continues to go downhill, I can see.

It just doesnt make sense...
I really do think its a jealousy cause no matter if we win it all or go 0-162, we still get a lot more attention than they ever will. Maybe the fact that a World Series win still didnt give them King of the City status just makes them hate us even more than pre 2005.

In four weeks we'll see Exhibit 'B' as evidence...
Exhibit 'A' happened in 2005. I live a few blocks away from Wrigley Field and was watching the World Series at home. After the final out was recorded and the White Sox won, I turned to my girlfriend and said "15 minutes. In 15 minutes, Sox fans will be honking and yelling and driving like maniacs around Wrigley."
So we went out for a walk. I was wrong - it was more like 30-35 minutes before they showed up. My girlfriend (a true Cubs fan) said they must have got lost on the way (pretty funny, eh? That's why I love her so).
They honked and yelled and pretty much acted like idiots for at least an hour or so. Cubs security was there (the bleacher expansion project had already begun) and they had to dissuade more than a few drunken idiots from trying to get into Wrigley.
So what's Exhibit 'B' you ask? Well, after Soriano catches a short fly ball down the left field line for the final out earning the Cubs a World Championship, I can almost guarantee you that 35th and Shields will be one of the quietest, loneliest, most desolate places in Chicago all night long...

ballhawk, that was immortal prose ..
There will be an awful smell also, and it won't be from the winos living under the tracks either.
FWIW, my brother is a firefighter who used to live at a great apartment in the area. If you were there, you could sit on his toilet, look at the window and see Smellular Field. How apropo ..
