10/6/07 Alternate game diary

They just have to worry about today's game. Worry about tomorrow then. I hope Rich pitches his best game so far. Offense guys that is what we need. Make it easier on Rich today and get some runs. Score first and score often. Hope the crowd provides the support this team needs.

GO CUBS!!! GO CUBS!!! GO CUBS!!!

Real good sign for the Cubbies
So I'm sitting there, watching ASU plod their way through another 1st quarter against WSU, and just cracked open my first annual Sam Adams "Octerberfest" of the year, which is traditional for me this time every year and just smelled the succulant aroma it sends off to greet it's owner, when a knock on the door interrupts my heavenly routine.

It's UPS. With a box. Hm. I don't remember buying anything recently. I sign and shut the door holding this box.  Shake. very light. Is it my birthday? No, not for another month.

And what do I see when I lift the folds back but a Cub hat! THAT'S RIGHT!!! Ofcourse!! I had completely forgotten I had ordered a Cub had 1 month ago!!! ANd it just now comes today, of all days?? How had I forgotten I ordered a Cub hat? Oh that's right, that's about the time I started into Bears mode.

Apparently it got lost and there's a note saying how sorry they are and to call a UPS CSR to find out more information. I've never been so happy to receive a package a month late.

And it's a fitted hat. and it fits perfectly. Oh what a day. The Cubs will not lose today. It's fate.

Let's not get overly dramatic
It's not a must-win game until you get eliminated.  All we need to do . . .

Oh, what?  The season is over if we lose today?

OK, then.  I guess it's a must-win.

Let's go Cubs.

I'm really tired of this

He's been living off that giant strike zone that Eric Gregg gave him for ten years now.  He's a bad pitcher, as long as we're patient.

If the Cubs were up 2-0
I guarantee you wouldn't be hearing any 'perceived' bias. You'd be too happy. This is a normal feeling when one's team is sucking -- hard. "Everybody's against us."

This is the type of talk I heard years ago -- from Padres fans. ("Everybody wants the Cubs to win -- all announcers are biased.")

The 1984 ABC crew that covered that game, including the late Don Drysdale suddenly didn't sound biased when the Pads came back.

You cannot fault TBS
for showing game highlights. If A-Ram had 2 grand slams, if Theriot had 5 triples in the past two games, if D-Lee had a game winning double - you'd be seeing those plays when the Cubs bat.

If THIS is the so-called bias, that's incorrect.

Hate to agree with the other poster, but ARIZONA is the only team with highlights to show. Unless you want TBS to show A-Ram's K's, or the outs made with runners on base.

And yet here, in a time when we need them most, here are these moronians booing them every time.

We were beaten by a better team
The Diamondbacks are a good team that outplayed it.

The Cubs were trying perhaps at times too hard.  This idiotic they weren't trying or didn't care thinking has got to stop.

I would have sent them off with cheers at the end of the game.  Yes I'm disappointed but this was an amazing turnaround in one season.

And this is a team that is a combo of youth and guys signed for a couple of years.

I hope Soriano beats the heads in of the boobirds.  This is a guy who probably should have been out the rest of the season who came back in a pennant race and we would not be here if he didn't.

by puckishcubsfan on Oct 6, 2007 8:37 PM CDT reply actions

also, when you see the youth on
AZ and Colo, I hope the Cubs have faith in TheRiot, Soto and even Pie (hopefully he develops his bat in winter ball).

Let's invest in some more starting pitching but get a bit more youth in the starting line up.  What we saw rise to the top in the NL this year was teams with defensive speed that could chase down balls and guys who did not tighten up at the plate.

A little youth is good.  I am already focused on 2008.  this year is behind me.

Ha!
No way! Let's be honest here...

If I am to use the word "fantasizing", it's gonna involve Jessica Biel, a case of whiskey, a live meerkat, 2 bottles of pimento cheese, and a few stalks of celery.

Now that, my friend, is fantasizing...

I'll bet Gerald Perry is gone
(the hitting coach).  This team was too hot & cold at the plate all year.  Something new has to happen.

we need a coach the hitters will listen to.

Read an article about him debating about retiring. I just say meh. He's not a bad guy to have around, but not really sure just how valuable he is next year.

This bunch didn't listen to
Sarge...or Gerald Perry, why would you think are they going to listen to anybody else? Free swingers live and die by the HR.

However, JJ upped his trade value, with his great 2nd half. He's a possibility to be moved. Somebody might take a flyer on the last year of that deal. Floyd will retire. Perhaps Murton's the new RF. Pie in CF. Soto behind the plate.

Since it appears a sale isn't imminent, Hendry has to get to work -- NOW. (Oh, I forgot. A-Rod Is going to buy the Cubs.)

Another starter -- a possibility. DO NOT STAND PAT with the current roster. The 2007 White Sox are a great example. Williams did nothing, and he got what he deserved.

by San Diego Smooth Jazz Man on Oct 6, 2007 9:02 PM CDT reply actions

sale isn't imminent?
Zell has to flip the team this winter as part of the financing of the Tribune purchase.  He is a part owner of ChiSox.  He has no desire to own the Cubs and it is tax efficient to do the sale of the team all as part of the deal up front, and MLB has agreed to this.

What am I missing?

Prince Fielder...he is neither.

by LAcarl519 on Oct 6, 2007 9:07 PM CDT up reply actions

Jazz man, you really should quit playing like you're the end all with everything.

Williams DID do some messing with the 2005 CHAMPION Sox and they never gat back to the playoffs.

'Nuff said.

Sue!
love the sig! Soto is the man. I had a hunger for Barrett, but just maybe, if I try really hard, Soto can fill the void. Perhaps it is a combo of hotness AND being a catcher.

There was
the sweetest picture of Geovany in the Des Moines Register after the I Cubs season ended. It was just him all by himself sitting in the dugout reflecting about his season. I'm so happy that he has done so well the last part of the season. I liked Barrett too but Geovany is the real thing. Definitley that combination of hotness and being a good catcher.

you have a terrible attitude
you seem to think that a manager can order his team to win, and make them win.  you seem to think that anyone who has a big contract and then has a slump is deliberately throwing the game.  you seem to think that anyone who needs some work as they rise through the ranks is a wastrel who should be traded for more experienced players.

Essentially, you want a different team.

Why don't you go root for the RedSox or something?  That'll give you the immediate gratification you want, and we'll benefit from you not being here.
