Get Over It, Crybabies!
I'm disappointed too. Very disappointed
But this diary is directed at the whiners that are blaming Lou P.
He is, in my opinion, the best thing to come to the Cubs in many years. He did a terrific job of taking what he was given in his first year of managing last year's Comedy Central doormat team.
It wasn't Lou who got swept, it was a bunch of mega-millionaire players who didn't perform when the rubber met the road. No surprise, really. Did you really think that Lou could take last year's doormat team and even win the division in his first year?
It's October, are you still waiting for the Easter Bunny to bring you Belgian chocolates?
Lou did a fantastic job with a team that no one would have wagered real money on winning even 3rd place in Comedy Central last June.
And don't tell me how long you've suffered as a disappointed Cubs fan. If you can tell me who was Barry Goldwater's VP candidate, then I'll listen to you. BTW, I dated his daughter Mary, who went to Newton College.
Hang in there 'till next year
Really!

100% right
I agree with you. Lou did an excellent job. I don't disagree with anything he did throughout the year and post season (with the exception of his belief Dempster could close non-save games). Regardless, our big players didn't perform.
Big props to Theriot who went out there and treated every played every moment like it was the biggest game ever. I'd say the same about DeRosa but that DP he got into will take a few more days for me to forget...
In the end, if there's one thing Lou can be blamed for it is not recognizing that our our hitting coach was doing a poor job. From our low HR activity to constantly getting into DP's. He did a lousy job and I think that's one area that should be focused on improving. A hitting coach to get our big bats in better shape for 2008.
Stop blaming the hitting coach...
The Cubs were much improved at the plate this year, showing more discipline than they had in years.
Hitting coaches teach philosophies, concepts. They try to correct bad habits and reinforce good ones.
Unfortunately, hitters are difficult animals to train. They have their ways of doing things and can be difficult to change dramatically.
The truth is that guys like Lee, Ramirez, Soriano, DeRosa, etc. are never going to change their style dramatically. They might start hitting to the opposite field a little more, or pulling the ball a little more. But they are what they are, and the Cubs are either going to have to live with that or try to deal them for someone else. It doesn't matter if that coach is Jeff Pentland, Gerald Perry, Sarge, or whoever.
Well
Not Lou's fault at all
Isn't it
Lou's job
The right people were in right position...they just did not perform.

Not putting all the blame on Lou...
But like every single player on that 25 man roster, Lou certainly has his share of blame as a Manager. You can't have it both ways. You can't say he's the greatest Manager ever to wear a Cubs uniform and have your team play absolutely horrible, while others get the blame.
Everyone sucked. Period. Everybody knows it too and have yet to see 1 post by anyone putting all the blame on Lou, so i'm not sure the reason for this diary and the opinions expressed within it.
This part of the thread....
So let's stop here.
Thanks.
Of course Lou isn't to blame....
he only gets all the credit for when they win
remember Lou won those 85 games, and the players lost the 80 other ones
UGH
Players win and lose games, managers rarely have an impact. In the 1 game where the manager had a chance to make an impact (Game 1) Lou made an atrocious decision in saving Z for Game 4...
No one is 100% responsible for this team's postseason struggles, NO ONE
but if you're going to give Lou the credit all season long for this team's turnaround, then you cant absolve him from blame right now
good news is Big Z is ready to pitch the game of his life today

Just remember:
We need another SP, a SS, and Pie in CF.
We need Pie in CF?
How about a real CF, Torii Hunter? Rowand? Andruw Jones?
To hell with Pie.
I just can't understand
Jones may be a good pick-up
He couldn't possibly have another .222 season.....could he?
just say no
It's always scary
ok then
Maybe we should just spend all of our time finding pricey free agents to spend our money on and hope they work out.
God knows all that "prospect" crap never worked for anybody like the Twins(Morneau, Mauer), Tigers(Granderson, Miller), Indians(Sizemore, Sabathia, Carmona), Yankees(Chamberlain, Hughes, Cano, Cabrera), Marlins(Cabrera, Ramirez from BOS), Phillies(Howard, Utley), Brewers(Fielder, Hardy, Hart, Braun, Weeks, Gwynn). Not to mention the numerous other young guys that completely demolished our Cubbies this past series. Need I name them off? Stephen Drew, Chris Young, Justin Upton, Mark Reynolds.
Even better news, they don't demand $136mil to hit in a lineup spot they don't belong. And they know the strike zone.
Good day.
