Best news ever...

...please god, tell me the Redbirds are doing this.

Star-divide

From our favorite site for unsubstantiated rumors:

"Strauss's article also mentions that the Cards are exploring options besides David Eckstein for shortstop.  They've recently been linked to Cesar Izturis."

Oh sweet lord....I'm not sure you can wish something like that on your worst enemy, but I'm wishing it anyways.

Silva
personally would not be a terrible sign, a slight upgrade from Marquis, Loshe is another story, guy gets shelled wherever he goes.

Agreed
If he switches to the NL Silva could end up being a pretty descent signing.  You're right about Lohse too, he's going to get way overpaid no matter where he signs.  Simply not worth it, almost every team has guys in the minors who could approximate what he'll end up doing.  And you just know he'll end up in a tough division in a hitters park and whoever signed him will regret it immediately.

Any Cardinal fan who thinks they can compete
is seriously deluded.  I've heard stuff like "We can win this year, it's the comedy central".  What's comedy is the Cardinals pitching staff.  Wainwright is a No. 2, No. 3.  Mulder is washed up.  Carpenter's not coming back.  Looper is best No. 4, No. 5 and Reyes had frequent flyer miles between Memphis and St. Louis last year.

Even if they had Johan Santana, Pujols is the only good bat they have.  Edmonds and Rolen are shells and probably will be traded anyway.

If the Reds and Marlins couldn't win last year with a powerful offense and pitchers like Willis and Harang heading up the rotation, the Cardinals with a terrible pitching staff and weak lineup certainly aren't going anywhere.

Agreed
You know how people say "If we could only get x, y, and z, we could win it all!"?  I sat through a 45 minute sentence by a Cards fan tonight.  Needless to say, I was laughing and just kept repeating "2007 Division Champs!" as her list got longer and longer.
