An evening with Scott Eyre

So, tonight I was at an charity event that Scott Eyre has been a part of for the last three years.  I went up to him to say hi and let him know what a Cubs fan I was.  Eventually, I worked in some general Cubs and baseball questions, then I started freely asking whatever I wanted.  Here are some things that he had to say:

Did he accept his player option?
Yes.  He had the right to select 10 teams he would not accept a trade from.  The only ones he mentioned were both NY teams and Dodgers.  Within this question he mentioned that Hendry approached him about the Dodgers interest in him around the allstar break, but he decided to stick it out with the Cubs

How did you turn your season around in the 2nd half?
He had an issue with his slider not breaking.  During the allstar break he came home for a couple days.  During that he reviewed video and Rothschild called him up with a minor change in his arm motion, which was a slight adjustment that made a huge difference.

Stevie Ire
He didn't care what Lou called him.  He likes Stevie Ire better since he was the 2nd half pitcher.  He did mention that his brother likes Natural Light.  Long story how that came up, but it did.

He heard a rumor that the Cubs might shop Marquis

What about Dempster in the rotation?
He was surprised that I knew this; eventhough, it  hasn't been that big of a secret.  He gives Dempster all the support and believes he will do a great job.  He thinks Howry will take over the closer job unless Marmol seriously proves himself by keeping up his good work.

When I metioned the interest in Kaz Matsui he said he guessed they were gonna move DeRosa to RF and seemed oblivious to Fukudome when I brought it up.  He also seemed perplexed about the Jacques trade.

No Cubs players were responsible in any of the Dempster bike thefts.

He is in regular competition with different players in Guitar Hero.  He said last night Kerry Wood picture messaged him at 4am with a record setting score.

As far as Wood's interest, he wants to stay a Cub.

Overall, he was awesome to talk with.  I spoke with him for quite a while, shooting the shit and and asking random questions.  I may also see him tomorrow, so if there are any more questions, let me know and I will try to get them in.
