Wrigley Resodding Project - Sunday 11/18 Update

Play ball!

I have also put all the front-page stories on the project in their own BCB section, which you can find on the left sidebar. I also posted 12 other diaries with resodding project updates; as soon as I figure out how to move them into that section, I will, so that you can see the progress of the project all in one place.

Looks like they could play ball today, doesn't it? Look at the Chicago forecast for Monday and Tuesday -- that's better weather than we have for most home games in April (and early May).

I have been watching the progress
daily, love the outcome. Would love to grab my mitt and bat and all of us BCBer's and have a pickup game on the new turf. Can't wait to see it next year!

Does anyone know
If in addition to all the other improvements if this will also improve the infield surface (aside from the removal of the crown)?

by cubz1963 on Nov 18, 2007 1:27 PM CST   0 recs

I'd imagine so...
... it would have to improve the infield surface since it is completely new.

Also, I'm pretty sure the crown on the outside of the infield is gone now too, meaning you wont see as many infielders calling down when they have to back up on a ground ball.

My question is....
Does anyone know if the sod is still a combination of Kentucky Blue and Rye or have they used something different?

The name of the company...
... where the Cubs got the turf is Graff's Turf Farms, located in Colorado. Here are the varieties of turf they use. Not sure which one(s) they brought to Wrigley.

Hmmmm
Thanks Al. I wonder if there's any way of finding out what the sod really is. It looks from that info as if they don't have the same blend as we had. It's weird, but it's sort of important in the way the grass grows in this climate and how it's cut and all.

I guess this fully eliminates
my dream of having the Cubs 5K run on the infield warning track a la Sausage Race 5K and probably more baseball stadium charity races. This is going to be watched over verrryy carefully.

Annyone notice
that they aren't actually done yet?  I don't see bullpen mounds...  Are these going to still run onto the playing surface?

Those look..
.... like they will now be on the new warning track in RF and LF. They probably have to be rebuilt after the entire original sod was dug up.

Love that new warning track!
Maybe Soriano will actually know where the wall is now.
Ed Lynch is STILL on the Cubs payroll, as our D-Backs scout in Phoenix. Lynch attends all 81 D-Back home games with a notepad in hand. Really paid off for us!
