John Canning in the news

There was "breaking news" this morning that John Canning is stepping down as CEO at Madison Dearborn, "Chicago's largest private equity firm."
Story from today's online Tribune.
Since Canning has been mentioned as a likely candidate to purchase the Cubs, I wonder if this is any cause for believing that something is afoot.

I'm sure the timing also has to deal with his nomination to be chairman of the board to the Chicago Fed.
