I had said I thought moving Dempster to the rotation next year is a significant development on the pitching staff. Cubs will find a way to sign Wood and eventually install him as the closer with Howry, Marmol (Dotel & Lidge like) to the set up and the rest of the pen of Eyre, Wuertz, and others.
Dempster will replace Marquis who will be traded to a team needing innings and generally a mid-line salary slot. This still leaves one slot open for the five where Kuroda appears to be targeted as a FA. This leaves Marshall in the back up slot and possibly a swing or LOOGY in the bullpen or eventual trade bait.
Moving Dempster and if the Cubs sign Wood into the eventual closer role this allows Hart to move into the middle reliever role joining Eyre, Wuertz and others.
If..if..Hendry pulls off another winter coup and gaining Fukodome and Kuroda the rest of the team appears to hinge on Pie's ability to shorten his swing and hit for .280 or better.
