Beer Pong League
Ok, so that I'm not actually taking players from another league I'm starting my own diary
The Beer Pong Update
since we're a chill league I thought we could wait until closer to Opening Day for the draft, after all we're Cubs fans, maybe this will minimize starting with injured players.
I'm keeping track of everyone who wants in, I promise, but don't get too worried about needing to figure everything out today, I'll send updates to your emails at least once a week, they haven't even let me start a league yet, we got time.
So if you're thinking about joining, come on over, the beverages are one ice, and there are a few spots left.
Oh, and no I was not joking, I will be handmaking the awards at the end.

Will there be
I know there are a few people throughout the site, like me, who have never done fantasy before.

Fantasy Baseball in a nutshell
Scoring: There are 10 categories in your typical h2h league they are:
Hitting Categories
Batting Average (BA)
Home Runs (HR's)
Runs (Scored) (R's)
Stolen Bases (SB's)
Runs Batted In (RBI's)
Pitching Categories
Wins
Earned Run Average (ERA)
Strikeouts (K's)
Walks and Hits Per Inning PItched (WHIP)
Saves (Sv's)
Each category you win is one point. If your team has 6 HR's in a week versus your opponent's 4 you win the point for HR's
Add up the categories you win versus the ones you lose and you have a record. Winning 8-2 is better than winning 5-4 as each category won is a win and each loss is a loss.
Positions
You start 10 players on every given day. Most leagues are done with daily transactions. Given the name of your league, you may be better apt at doing weekly transactions.
You will start:
Catcher (1)
1st Baseman (1)
2nd Baseman (1)
Shortstop (1)
3rd Baseman (1)
Outfield (3)
Util (1) - The utility player is a player from any of the above positions.
Pitching
Starters (2)
Relievers (2)
General Purpose Pitchers (3)
As you can see there are a lot of strategies here.
Some of which I cannot divulge due to the tail whippings I have to dole out in another league.

In a perfect world,
The only reason you really want to change your lineup is for
A). Off days
B). Injuries
C). Slumps
D). I personally like to rotate my starters.
All categories are played each week. You face one opponent every week. So you will play Flyball's team one week and then another team the next week.

Drafting well..
Remember the more things a player can do the better. If a player can hit 30 hr's and steal 30 bases then he's a very valuable player. Also, some fantasy players get caught in drafting the next big thing way too early.. remember that this is a one year league, and that after this year the league ends so you don't keep any of the players next year. So thus production is more important than potential.
Also, go into the draft knowing what type of team you would like to have, do you want a team that is pitching heavy or hitting heavy. But don't let a general strategy overrule taking the best player on the board. If everyone takes pitchers don't take a pitcher just because there is only one good one left, take the best available hitter and grab another great hitter.
All in all, the last 5 rounds are where the money is made.. Everyone can get studs at the top, identify guys you think will truly break out and out perform their draft position... Surprises if you will. and grab them..
I'll give you one guy that is on my board for this and that's SP Chad Billingsley of the LA Dodgers, I will look to grab him late and ride the successes.
Also, I'll give you one guy I'd stay away from that will likely go too high..
SP Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers, Yes he had a great rookie year but his numbers really tapered off at the end of the year and into the playoffs... reason: overuse... The arm is going to get hurt.. hopefully not next year or the year after though.
Good luck and remember to Have Fun.
