BCB Downfall

I have read this bog regularly for about one year. Don't post much, but have enjoyed being updated on Cub's matters as well as the extraneous discussions.  However, I am officially done with this blog. The final straw was Al's incredibly irresponsible and grand-standing of a diary regarding CJ Wilson and Brandon McCarthy.

It was wildly inappropriate and a headline like that is obviously just a pathetic attempt to get as many "clicks'" as possible.

What makes it even more stunning, is that this blog is run by someone who works for a mainstream media organization. Someone, who presumably who be sensitive to responsible journalism.

Guess not.

I don't suppose this diary will last very long, before it is deleted by Al. However I wanted to post this because it is unfortunate that a site which used to be a great one has now descended to the depths that it has.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation or Al Yellon, managing editor (unless it's a FanPost posted by Al). FanPost opinions are valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable baseball fans.

good riddance.  You are taking this way too seriously.

i respectfully disagree with you
i think this poster is voicing dissatisfaction with the site that many longtime readers have felt for some time.

i believe it's not too late to stop the downslide, but nobody seems to want it.  i hoped for a long time that al did, but i guess not.

Then leave.
Perhaps you could get a recommendation for a good blog from someone you trust, like a friend or coworker.

by Hobbes on Mar 11, 2007 1:55 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

nice
a "community" is supposed to be able to discuss problems, not just sweep it all under the rug.

nice "community" this has become.  agree with al or leave.  i always thought the other sites were wrong.

thanks for the tip, though.  i'll be sure to let my friends and co-workers, some who lurk here and don't post, know that they either put up with whatever al does or leave.

Just offering you
a solution to your problem - not an ultimatum.  I think you know that.

Here's another tip - your short fuse and angry rantings probably won't be met with much excitement elsewhere either.

Why are you using so much energy posting on a place you hate?

Fantastic question
This is at least the third string in the last 2 days that Terry S has complained about the same thing.

If people want to make this site more about baseball (something that has thankfully happened since the recent schism), I suggest they start more diaries about baseball.  And when Al or anyone else starts a discussion you don't think should be on here, say so or move on.  Or even better, don't respond at all.

by Phred on Mar 11, 2007 4:13 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

you can disagree with Al
all you want.  If you disagree and it bothers you too much, then leave.  If not, tell him you disagree and move on.  I've disagreed with Al numerous times.  It doesn't sway me from wanting ot be part of this community.  To type a diatribe about something you disagree with and threaten to leave is immature and a waste of time.  That's all I'm saying.

There are definitely
other blogs that might be more in your league. I wish you luck in your search.

I do have to say though, if responsible journalism is what you are looking for, perhaps blogging is not the fastest route from A to B.    I'd have to agree that perhaps you are taking this a bit too seriously.

BCB Lives
There have been several periods of controversy here at BCB over the past couple of years.  This most recent one appears to be the most serious threat to Al's blog so far.  It began with the departure of cubbiejulie and what I consider to be Al's knee jerk reaction to a situation that, frankly, is just this side of Britney Spears' haircut.

Does that mean we should all jump ship?  I think not.  Please someone, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Al just might be human.  Whether he is a professional broadcaster or not is irrelevant.  He could be the second coming of Ed Norton as far as BCB is concerned.

This blog is a community and I don't know of a single community anywhere that doesn't have its fair share of trouble.  Communities survive.

Those who have already jumped ship ought to rethink their defections.  As I see it, they are just as likely to have their feelings hurt wherever they go.  Take a look at how Al has chosen to run his site.

Bannings only come after Al has given chance after chance to people who just don't play well with others.  He appears to have communicated privately with other BCBers when there are issues.  This is just plain good manners, but much, much more.  He apologizes profusely whenever the consensus places him in the wrong, and sometimes when he himself thinks he has erred.  Does Al grandstand?  Not a chance.  Does Al make errors of judgement and mistakes?  Yeah, every now or then.  Don't you?

I'm staying.  I miss cubbiejulie, but there are other personalities here that are just as noteworthy as she.  I'll check over at her site every now and then just for a laugh but when I want an interesting game thread or real Cub news, BCB is still tops.  If your skin is so thin you get your feelings hurt every time someone disagrees with your POV then you should leave.  When one lives in a community one should be part of the solution to a problem, not part of the problem.  See ya!

You can go a long way to restoration and accomodation but at times you may not be able to please everyone and sometimes it's your own fault, too...My impression here is that Al tries very hard to make this blog work and it works very well.

re: but I think Al just might be human
of course he is.  Have you ever read some of his trade proposals?  LOL!

An Internet Blog is not the place for people to start playing the "moral or ethical police" and speak to the community.  Opinions?  Yes.  But at the end of the day, we are all humans and are not subject to perfection.

Great post Luigi.

gbs
i'm glad to see it was not just me who felt this way.  watch out for the backlash from the "community".  i tried to point out the problems and got called "typhoid mary".  because it was me who bans people and sends e-mails and tells people not to talk about them, and it was me who posted diaries that drove people away and then it was me who begged people to stay.

i'm with you.  i keep coming back here trying to give it a chance, but all that happens is i get disappointed again.  over the past year, i put up with a lot of nonbaseball diaries and opinions I did not agree with, because there was enough baseball talk to keep me here.

i figured all the crap from last month would die down and the site would get back to normal.  i came back because i figured spring training starting would change things.  but now problem is, i see front page movie reviews and talk about "racist photographs" and pictures of jen lopez.  sure glad we got rid of those "nonbaseball" people.

cubs news?  i can get that anywhere.  bruce miles giving the lineup an hour early is not worth the rest of this.

if we all really want cubs talk, then why are gbs and i the only ones with the guts to say something about the rest of the crap that is still going on?

i'm trying to help al keep the audience he has, but whatever.  i guess gbs and i are the only ones who give a crap about this site going down.

by TerryS on Mar 11, 2007 2:06 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Well...
I give a crap.  I just think that BCB is what it is, and we need to move on.

If you have a solution I'm willing to help out, but I don't know if there is one. People already made up their minds about Al, and therefore BCB, so I don't think we can change all that.

It seems to me that if you have been back and forth so often the easiest thing to do is just don't come back.  What is the point of your post other than to generate even more controversy?  Perhaps you get your jollies by seeing your post on the internet.  Sheesh!  Either go or stay but quit kicking the horse--it's already dead.

Funny
Not intended as a flame, but I don't see any comments from GBS in Al's entry on the matter that started this in the first place.

If you differ with Al or want to comment on it, fine.  But your "threat to quit" seems a little disingenuous if you don't do so in the first place.

Not flaming either
but I think you may be taking yourself, and all of this just a bit too seriously, TerryS.

While I agree that some of the posts on this blog may be out of line, I just scroll past the drama and look for the baseball related stuff.

This is still one of the most knowledgeable bunch of baseball fans I have run into anywhere.

If you choose to leave, that is your choice, of course, but spare us the same kind of "drama" you are railing against, please.

Here's the problem,
as I see it.

I've kept quiet the past few weeks out of respect for everyone that I like, both here and at other sites, and because I was one of the people ivolved in the bruhaha which started the issues in the first place.  I've been trying to remain neutral.  Sadly, I'm not Switzerland.

I've noticed a change over the last few months.  Not necessarily with one specific person, ie Al, but with the community as a whole.  And I'm getting tired of it.  I thought if I didn't comment as frequently, then I might get over it or realize that I was overreacting.  I also assumed, in error, that everything would settle down once baseball came back.  Apparently not.

I'm not sure when the change happened.  But somewhere over the course of the last few months, this site has gone from a place with a lot of intelligent baseball discussion, camaraderie, and some random silliness to a place where it seems common, almost natural even, to stand on a moral soapbox and denigrate to personal attacks when a poster does not share the opinion of the majority.  Some of the responses to this diary have proven this statement.  It's saddening.

I've been here almost a year.  Yes, that's not as long as many of you, but it's longer than a lot of you as well.  I've seen a lot of quarrels between people, but for the most part, it was a respectful disagreement amongst baseball fans.  It no longer is.

Why do we feel the need to attack someone who posts their reasons for leaving?  It's his or her own decision.  Don't flame that person for their opinion.  It really puts you in a bad light.

I've tried to be the voice of reason the past few weeks (when I do post), but frankly it's not working.  And yeah, I have called people out myself.  On all sides.  And I try to be reasonable in my arguments.  But I've never resorted to personal attacks to do so.

There are still quite a few people whose opinion I value here.  Maddog, Thelonius, VS- you all are intelligent, rationale and mature.  I respect all your posts and hope I am more intelligent from reading them.

A lot of really good people, whom I consider to be friends, have left recently over all the hubbub, and I can't say I blame them.  I've thought about it a lot recently.  Especially since it's been made abundantly clear by the majority that anyone with a dissenting opinion or a penchant for shenanigans is not welcome.  Why have I stuck it out?  Like everyone here, I love Cubs baseball, and I enjoy this site.  At least I did.

I'm not sure that I want to stick it out anymore.  I'm not sure that I want to deal with the juvenile behavior.  If I wanted that, I'd go to a chat room.

That said, I'm going to stick to a mostly lurker status only, unless something compels me to comment.  Or until everyone takes the sticks out of their asses and the conversation returns to normal, educated, mature discussion, with a few shenanigans thrown in for fun (in the appropriate place.

And now, I'm waiting to see the obligatory "we won't miss you" and "don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out" and the "who cares if you leave" degrrading comments.  Carry on.

Response
I understand what you're saying. Undeniably, BCB has changed. In the past, the great majority of comments were baseball related. This offseason, without the focus of an ongoing schedule, it's seemed to me that we've morphed into a social blog foremost, and a baseball blog secondarily. Obviously everyone is free to make their choice as to what they prefer. I know I don't enjoy having to scroll through comment after comment that really adds nothing to the discussion of baseball.

I'm hopeful that beginning April we'll be talking more baseball and less recipe. I don't think Al ever considered that BCB would turn into an IM chatroom.

al i like you
and all i want to know is where you stand on this.  do you feel like bcb is getting worse or better.  that seems to be the black and white issue here, and you seem to be riding the fence.  i thought you had a great thing going, and was very optimistic spring training would get things back on track.  it has happened a little, but not like all these out of the woodwork users predicted.  its now just different user names saying the same crap.

hell, you agreed with secdelhac's post about childish hijacking, but you were the one who encouraged it.  this is what makes all this so frickin frustrating.

to all those who just tell me and others who ask these valid questions to leave, i don't understand you at all.  i get that you think there is less screwing around lately, but i just don't see how that could be true, with updates on fingers and jen lopez and movies as nonbaseball front page items.  but none of you choose to acknowledge that. you just don't like when someone voices dissatisfaction with what i, and apparently quite a few others, think is happening generally to the site.

al, you had a great site.  a great site.  it is disappearing before your eyes, and that is all i am trying to say.  i don't give a crap about the cubbiejulie drama.  i was just hoping things would go back to how they were last year, and it just isn't happening.  instead, its angry people on both sides and you apparently supporting both sides.

but at the end of the day it is your site and you can do what you want.  just tell me what that's going to be.  i don't want to hear what other users say.  i want to hear it from you.  please.

by TerryS on Mar 11, 2007 9:20 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm not sure what you want me to say here.
I will say this: if you have been here long enough (and I think you have) you know that I have always written about personal stuff in my life, sometimes related to baseball, sometimes not. I've written movie reviews and other off-topic things going all the way back to the beginning of my old site, four years ago.

I see no reason to stop that now. And I'm not going to.

You say I "support both sides". There shouldn't BE any "sides" here. We are all Cubs fans; we all have our opinions about the Cubs (and everything else, too). As I said before, there is room for everyone here, and I did, and do still, welcome every single person who has "left", to return. Have feelings been hurt? Yes, but there ought to be room for forgiveness in each and every one of us.

All I have ever asked is

  • have respect for others
  • keep the profanity level down
Really, I don't think that's too hard of a thing to do.

What I really want to do is get the discussion away from the site and from me and back on baseball -- and yes, when it seems appropriate, other topics.

"Can't we all just get along?" That's a cliche quote, but it feels appropriate here.

Re
The big difference I see is between what Al chooses to write about and what other choose.

It's Al's blog.  He can write whatever he damn well feels like writing about when he rolls out of bed at three in the morning.

OTOH & IMNSHO, everyone else should either stick to baseball-related posts and/or provide a germane response to Al's musings.

It's when anyone decides that rather than make the effort to start their own blog, they're going to use the diary feature to do a James Joyce for the assembled multitudes here that the wheels come off.

To sum up:

If you're Al, write whatever your muse inspires.  If you're not, stick to baseball or the subject at hand.

This is a blog.
Who cares what Al does or doesn't post about?  Sure, it's a community and can be discussed, but if you really want to discuss this, you would of done it in a private e-mail to Al or in a diary worded a lot differently.

I come here for the same reason I did last season:  To find up-to-the-minute information and discussion about the Cubs, baseball, and Chicago in general.  Other stuff is also thrown in sometimes, and that's fine.  That's what a blog is about.

Why does Al's day job mean anything to how he runs this site?  A blog is not a MSM product.  You are just here to cause trouble, and I'll be glad to show you the door.  If you were really concerned about the community, you would of done your criticizing in other ways as I already mentioned.

by sanantonecub on Mar 11, 2007 3:31 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Why is this even a point of discussion?
Read it...or don't read it.

Participate...or not. Who is forcing you? Some, who have a thin skin have vanished. Look -- if you put yourself out there, people are either gonna like or hate what you say. If you are not used to that, I advise you to 'cowboy up.' (As a Red Sox fan might say.) Many people HERE take potshots at the MSM daily. (And, the target of your response will not ever see it.) Most of you hate Jay Mariotti. That's fine, and that's OK with him. As long as you read him, that's all he cares about. And I'm sure many of you say "I hate him" but STILL read him. Therefore, if you write something that might not be in agreement with the masses here -- well, expect opposite opinions.  It just seems obvious, but I guess it isn't to those who have never participated in a public forum.

Some very good writers here have moved on, after they were flamed. That's too bad, but it's their choice. We all want to be 'liked' but in a public forum -- stuff happens. Either live with it -- or go create your own blog and let everybody suck up to you.

That also is what Talk Radio is about, be it sports or political. The hosts, in many cases don't even believe what they are spouting. (I temporarily worked in that medium 15 years ago.) It's "entertainment!" That's what I was told by a talk host who was stating opinions on the air contrary to what his actual beliefs were.  He went to where he could maximize his ratings. For me, that's shameful. For him, it was 'a living.' I eventually left that arm of the media, for I wasn't interested in checking my morality at the door when I went to work and picking it up on the way out the door.

I've taken hits for my opinions -- I'm fine with that. That's what this is forum is for, other opinions. (No personal attacks, of course) So, if you think it's "The downfall of BCB" -- fine. I do not agree. But you can certainly state your opinion. However, why stick around if you don't like this stage any more? I don't go to most Cubs blogs because of their mud-slinging toward other blogs. That's childish behavior -- certainly, they can do so if they choose, but I feel no reason to participate or read any of their material.

Also childish behavior:
"or go create your own blog and let everybody suck up to you."

Making side potshots. You want to call somebody out, man up and do it, don't make generalizations about things you don't know.

Having the freedom to post about other things besides baseball, if that's sucking up, than I guess that's some of us then.

To my recollection,
Julie was the one that mandated the rule against hijacking.  Then she started her own blog and changed her story on the matter.  So, I'm not sure exactly what your point is... nor do I think that the truth is really being told here.

I would really look further into this matter before you start going off on a tangent, or else you too could find yourself having to change your story.

Feel free to pounce.

See the post from nextyearcub
He sums it up.  Al and Julie discussed the entry, and Julie posted it.

In the beginning of the comments, Mark (gravedigger) and I agreed and apologized.  When Chris (Faith Plus One) read it, he did the same.  In between, there were a lot of accusatory and inflaming comments posted about those of us who took part in the shenanigans.  It seemed as though we were persona-non-grata around here.  After a few other events in the following week, Julie left and started her own site, for her own reasons.  I won't elaborate on that, since I'm not privy to all the information.  And what I do know was not made public, so it's not my place to say anything.

Thank you for your rational approach to this.

Pouncing away
If you went back and actually read that thread, it was Al who said he asked Julie to write it. Then again, facts, real information, truth, what are all those really worth?

So no, there'll be no changing of the story, as it is all 100 percent accurate. You, on the other hand, may need to.

OK,
So, they discussed it. And Julie wrote it. But it sounds like it was a dual decision. What matters is that many have moved on, yet some want to rehash things. Not you Hobbes, you weren't involved in the original stuff and it sucks you got dragged in. But keeping this discussion going is helping no sides, I think.

You know what's tiring?
Having people email me constantly to tell me that my name is being tossed around on a site that I no longer frequent.

What's completely infuriating is seeing people whose screen names I don't recognize holding court on my departure and the reason for it.

I left this site as quietly and quickly as possible. It was ME who deleted all the diaries that had my name in the subject line, not Al.  I didn't do a "goodbye cruel world" post as so many others have done because I felt it would inject even more drama into a site that had more than its fair share. Instead, I went off and opened my own shop.

To everyone (and there have been many of you) who have thrown my name around in these little soap operas, let me say this: you have NO idea what went on between Al and me in private emails. You DO NOT know even 1/10th of the story. If you chose to believe that I was too thin-skinned and that I took my ball and went home because my feelings were hurt, then fine. I can assure you, however, that that was not the case.

I really intended not to involve myself in this site in the future in any way, but after receiving all these emails, I felt the need to defend myself. I'm not going to air anyone's dirty laundry here. But neither am I going to sit back and let people continue to blame me for the degradation of this site when they have no idea what they are talking about.

The most frustrating thing for all of us who have left this site is that Al knows exactly why I left, but has chosen to allow people to state falsehoods and has done nothing to stop it.

Yes, I posted the hijacking diary, with Al's full support (which he noted himself more than once). In fact, he suggeted that I write it because it "would mean more coming from me." I never changed my story. If you go back and read that diary, you will note that I said I was as guilty as anyone of the hijacking.

Hate me, don't hate me. I don't really care. But please stop injecting me into the issues this board has with itself. I've moved on. I wish some you could do the same.

HENDRY!

You posted a link to this site earlier this afternoon: http://inaleagueofherown.com/showComment.do?commentId=2540

That said, to the extent you have moved on and taken your non-Cubs diaries and coomentary with you, I would like to thank you.  To the extent other like-minded folks have followed you, I thank you again.

All that said, it is too bad that you decided to leave entirely.  Even if you are not the most historically aware Cubs fan and you let your personal feelings overwhelm your seemingly rather high capability to think critically (e.g. your Mark Grace bio in the Top 100), I for one appreciated the passion you brought to this site.

Sorry.  But we need to get real around here REALLY FAST.

Thin skinned?
So having Al email you and ask you to bring everyone back to his site, apologize for things, ask for your advice -- and then let people rip on you, that makes me thin skinned?

And being told what to post and what not to post, and thus wanting to post somewhere else, means I'm sucking up to Julie?

I always enjoyed your posts, SDSJM, because you have given me some serious history lessons in baseball and Cubs history, and I've really learned a lot.  But this is one subject about which you know nothing.

talking about...people not letting things just roll off their back and letting it go. But I guess I am unaware about what's going on. I just am making an observation about an individual who within a couple of days of leaving here, has their own site up and running.

Perhaps that was their objective, all along. It was just 'hurried' along when they took some heat.

Interesting.....
this soap opera is very entertaining.

I would love to hear Al's take on this mess.  I am undecided on whether he is taking the high road or is hiding to not further embarrass himself.  IMHO, I believe Julie to be a stand up person.  I do not feel she had any ulterior motives.

Either way this blog has become much more interesting.  Where was this drama last year when the Cubs were out of the race by mid May?

But the bottom line is -- can we all please move on, discuss baseball and other things when it seems appropriate, and stop sniping at each other?

As I have repeatedly said, all I've asked here is:

  • for people to respect one another
  • to keep the profanity level down

Seriously I think I have missed at least half the stuff that  gets posted. For that reason I  have been largely oblivious to any major changes. I stick mostly to game posts and subjects of interest to me ( Maddux, Murton EI whatever). I have been here a very long time and short of Al becoming a Sox fan I am not likely to leave but this doesn't mean I don't read and sometimes post on a few other Cub blogs. I have made a lot of friends here and some have left but well I guess I AM Switzerland to the degree that I can't that personally angry about blog stuff ( exlcuding insults to Maddux) I understand that some people feel personally attacked and if I actually read all the stuff I would see that but ignorance being bliss I manage to either skip it or just not have the time to look at it. Not making any new points here just telling you how I feel. REAL baseball is only a few weeks ago so I am going to focus on THAT ( and my trip to Spring Training)

Unfortunately, the fans of the Rangers have been the biggest loosers in this whole situation.  Two players who embraced this mess we love so much are now running away.  Personally, I don't blame them.

Moving forward, I think we all need to be careful in what we post.  I think it is clear that Al fucked up.  That being said, the man appologized.  Would it make it better if we cut off his hand or stoned him?

Good gosh almighty!
I've been away for a bit due to a personal crisis with an adult kid but felt I had to respond to this post.

I think in the last few weeks, BCB has become a better blog in discussing the Cubs among other things concerning baseball.  I enjoy this place better than any other Cubs blog or forum and respect Al for all he does and whatever he wants to post is fine with me.  After all, he does run this joint.

In my opinion only, if you don't like what is posted or don't want to be here, then why do you read the posts and feel like you have to start a diary to complain.  You aren't getting paid to read here so quit the drama and attention seeking. The best thing folks can do who only want to bash and complain is to hit the road, Jack, and don't come back no more, no more, no more, no more.  Give the rest of us a break and read elsewhere.

All right...my two cents then I'm off...
...and I will try to be brief.

To those of you who felt that the likes of myself were bringing down the quality of this blog with flights into off-topic nonsense, please accept my sincerest apologies. As my absence should attest, I have gone elsewheres so as not to be a distraction or a hinderance to what is the primary function of this blog: the discussion and dissection of Cubs baseball.

Part of it can be blamed on the snail-like pace of the offseason, part of it perhaps on the inevitable tediousness that comes from discussing the same topics over and over again due to said snail-like offseason (which never goes fast enough). But mostly, I blame the off-topic nonsense on the fact that I became, strangely enough, good friends with a number of posters on this site, and found that I enjoyed conversing with them on just about anything and everything, not only Cubs baseball.

And part of being friends means messing around a bunch and having fun, which was what all those hijacked threads were about in the first place.

However, looking back now, and seeing how all the thread hijacking has affected BCB, I honestly wish it hadn't occurred, and I apologize again for my part in it and if I ruined the experience for others who come here strictly for Cubs baseball. This is why I have left, so as not to be a part of the problem, in addition to finding a blog that fits my personality a bit better and is bit more indulgent towards my digressionary tendencies.

It's also where my friends have gone.

As far as the aftershocks that seem to continue to rumble here and there and as far as assigning blame as to who did what and how BCB is now as compared to what it was before, do what you want of course, but I think it's time this was put to bed. There is far more to the story concerning why specific posters have left than what has been reported, and in lieu of those details, which should not be shared for the sake of the dignity of those principally involved, I would ask those of you who aren't privy to the entirety of the situation to just let this go and be happy. You now have your blog back. The wherefores and the whys are not important. Enjoy this place.

So anyhow. In closing, I am grateful to BCB for this community, as I would not have found the posters who have become good friends of mine and whom I look forward to watching and criticizing and smarmy commenting the 2007 season away with, and I apologize again for not considering others enough and for being a part of the reason these others have not enjoyed this blog as much as in times past.

Good luck BCB. Take care.

Oh and look. I wasn't brief. Sorry.

Please Make It Stop
Okay, I am finally going to add my two cents to the drama on this site and then return to my '95% lurker" status.

First, I love this site for a lot of reasons, but I mainly read it because Al is an intelligent Cubs fan who posts items with subject matter that appeals to me.  I rarely post diaries or comment on anything, because I just don't have a lot of time and by the time I do want to comment, most people have already covered the territory for me.  I realize many of you view this site as a lot more than that, but please folks, if you don't like the content of the site or the attitude, rules and policies of the guy who runs it, do what others have done - leave and start your own site and then write well enough to attract like-minded people.  What I can't abide are childish diaries like this.  I'm not trying to be offensive, but it's a lot like my niece who attempted suicide by downing two bottles of pills and then immediately announced that she had downed two bottles of pills.  She didn't want to kill herself - she wanted attention and later admitted as much.  If "you're officially done with this blog", why bother writing a farewell address.  Just depart and take your insights elsewhere.  You don't like it here - way it goes.  We'll miss you.  Don't come in and write about the 'downfall of BCB' like Al is Adolf Hitler in his Berlin bunker waiting for the Russians to storm the gates of the city. It's a sad cry for attention that warrants absolutely no response (of course, many people, including me, are responding so at least you're getting your wish).  I went back and read your comment history, and I saw that Al offered to help you find tickets to a game at Wrigley last year when you were going to Chicago at the last minute.  I'm not sure if he ever did, but I find this diary to be an interesting way to repay the kindness of that offer.

Like all websites, forums, communities, etc, BCB has and will continue to have its ups and downs in its following, but I don't see this place drying on the vine anytime soon.  People will keep coming here as long as the owner continues to post blog entries, because he's a bright, funny, passionate fan of this insane baseball franchise.

I now return to lurker status; let's win it all this year!

Cubs By The Numbers

Cubs By The Numbers is a history of the ballclub by uniform number, but the biographies help trace the history of our beloved team in a new way. For everyone who's a Cubs fan, anyone who ever wore the uniform is like family. Cubs By The Numbers reintroduces readers to some of their long-lost ancestors, even ones they think they already know.
