Has anyone been notified yet, either way?

Those who are selected to be given the first opportunity to purchase tickets will be notified on Tuesday, March 13. The winners will then be allowed to purchase on Thursday, March 15, in a designated time period, up to six Dugout, Bullpen or Bleacher Box tickets for one game. Additional registered fans will be given the opportunity to purchase tickets as long as inventory remains available

No, I haven't gotten anything either -- and I know teams do send email either way, so I suspect these emails are still to come.

It appears...
... from your email that you're in the first group -- congratulations, you'll get first pick of the seats. Good luck!

I didn't get in, myself, although the "sorry" email says:

Please be aware that these tickets could still become available later this week and we will notify you if there is another opportunity for you to purchase them.

Most teams that have email lotteries like this do wind up doing "second chance" emails, so I (and any of the rest of you who didn't get them) may get another chance. Watch your inbox.

Agreed
Last year I wasn't selected but then was offered a "second chance" but by that time all the bullpen box which I was interested in were gone - Dugout box were too expensive for my taste.

I've been planning all along to make it to Chicago sometime this summer, I just didn't know when yet...I guess I need to make my decision before Thursday!  (That, and find a way to get through to the Cubs ticketing server from work...)

If you can purchase 2 dugout seats for any of the "value games" ($55 face I think), I'd pay 100 bucks a piece.
Well, sometimes nothin is a real cool hand.

Got some good news in my inbox just a short while ago!  I get first selection too, I'm pumped!

Now I just have to decide if I want dugout or bullpen seats, and what game I'd like to go to.

I'm Out
Although I have had some luck picking up singles when the dregs are made available.  Dugout boxes, while way expensive, are the best place in the world!

section numbers?
Does anyone know the section numbers for the seats that are considered dugout box?  And is there a site that has pictures of them (other than seatdata)?

by kanderber on Mar 13, 2007 7:30 PM CDT reply actions

The very first three rows
In sections 15-26, inside the two dugouts.  They are rows A, B, and C as they were only recently built.

I dunno about pictures, but I'm sure you can imagine the view. If nothing else, take seatdata's and imagine yourself 15 rows closer.

That's just downright awesome!  Thanks for posting the pictures; I assume that you took those?  What great seats!

by kanderber on Mar 13, 2007 8:39 PM CDT up reply actions

Yep
I took them myself.  You pretty much just sit there with your jaw open the whole time.  ("Hey, Chipper - move over!  I can't see the plate!")

The best part was when the Cubs came back from the huge hole that Ryu dug them into - and Bobby Cox was literally standing two feet next to me on the other side of the wall.  If there has ever been an opportunity to rub it right into the face of the opposing manager, that was it.  And I took full advantage.

Dugout
When I sat in my dugout front row seat last year, I was close enough to Cub hitters in the on-deck circle that I could have reached out and touched them. One thing that stands out - Juan Pierre sure had a lot of visible veins in his arms and hands. A really wiry guy - you notice it more up close.

I watched Bronson Arroyo pretty much shut down the Cubs for 8 innings in that game. It was late September, and the Cub players were already halfway into the offseason mentally, I think.

Oh well.  We've gotten dugout seats (3rd row for a Cubs-Cardinals night game...we were on ESPN the entire night!) and bullpen seats last year for the Giants.  Gotta share the love, I suppose :)

I'm in!
I get to buy at 11 a.m. Thursday. I'm going to try for bullpen seats. I sat in a dugout box last year (front row, for that matter), and although it was incredible, it was very expensive, and also I don't like having a screen between me and the game.

We had dugout box...
next to the visitors dugout a couple of years ago. Those were outside the screen, so close it was a little scary (especially with little kids.)

sit this close

Still--incredible seats, screen or not. The kids got three balls from Brewers and the ball girl. We have the 10AM slot and will probably try to sit there again.

OK
That photo you included is making me re-think bullpen. However, there's no guarantee I'll end up not behind the screen, and odds are, I will be behind it.

I'm in again....
And don't worry if you were not picked. After being chosen in the first round last year -- I was asked 2 MORE times if I wanted to buy some tix.

The irony is, I'm buying late in the season -- and still, I may not be able to make this trip to Chicago. (I already have tix for 2 Dodgers games in Sept) So, some lucky BCBer may have the chance to buy these tix from me if I cannot make the trip.

by San Diego Smooth Jazz Man on Mar 13, 2007 8:55 PM CDT reply actions

And, I might add, these were the seats
that led to my infamous "You Suck, Freddie Bynum" exortation in September of last year, during his 3-error performance that particular rainy night against the Dodgers. Freddie heard me, and tossed an obscenity back toward me to the horror of everybody seated in the boxes. My telling of the tale then led to my subsequent hand-slapping by the good readers of BCB, for saying such (non) naughty things to poor ol' Freddie.

So, if you purchase these seats. Zip it! No talking!

The Cubs did rally to win that game, in extras.

That's good to know.
I can't imagine the games we were looking at will go too fast. Between the fact that we aren't going to take off of work, didn't want to pay prime date prices and wanted to make it when my brother was in town, we were limited to only a handful of games. I'll have to remember to bring my camera and take some photos.

No problem.  If we would have won this year, we were probably going to get those again.  The dugout seats are cool, but it was also kind of annoying to have to look through the screen the whole time.

It works...
... just like the email says. You go to the link they sent you, log in with the password and email you gave, and then you have to do it during that login session.

If you are going for a weekday value game, you should pretty much have your pick of tickets -- those will be the last games to go, and you'll get great seats at a (somewhat more) reasonable price.

by buckmulligan on Mar 14, 2007 1:35 PM CDT up reply actions

Um...
... not really. How much luggage will you have? If it's backpack-sized or smaller, you can bring it into the park, subject to inspection. Otherwise I think you're out of luck on that score.

Some hotels
will allow you to check out, then leave your luggage with them until you come back to retrieve it. I've done that twice at the Hawthorne Terrace near Wrigley. We checked out, went to the game, then came back and got our luggage.

question
I'd like to sit in the bullpen or dugout box seats for a Cubs Sox game... are the prices for them going to be insane on ebay?  Anyone remember from last year?

by kanderber on Mar 14, 2007 8:58 PM CDT reply actions

prices
No idea about eBay. I bought my dugout box from a ticket place down the block from Wrigley when the game was already in the 2nd inning. I paid $60 for the front row seat. I imagine they go for much higher than that on any Internet ticket site, probably in the thousands each for White Sox games.

by danimal15 on Mar 14, 2007 9:56 PM CDT up reply actions

the THOUSANDS?!
seriously?  A thousand dollars for a 255 dollar ticket?!

by kanderber on Mar 14, 2007 10:11 PM CDT up reply actions

For a Cubs/Sox game?
I don't doubt it being the asking price.  Whether or not they get sold, that's a different story.

I sold Game 7 NBA Playoff Tickets Spurs/Mavericks last year for $225 - face value was $40, I paid less then that.  Of course, that was one of the greatest NBA playoff series of  all time.

Go on any ticket resale site - you will undoubtedly see at least a few tickets in 4 digits for each game.  Whether or not someone buys is a different story.

All I had to go with is that I've seen those seats listed in four figures on various web sites. That doesn't mean they actually sell for that much.

seat
I can't remember the seat. Obviously, I could be wrong. But I believe I was in 16, and I was several seats to the right of the aisle. All the seats in my section, I believe, were behind the screen.

The section to the left of there, which you referred to (with the plexiglass), is one I wanted to sit in. After some people left there during the final innings I asked the security guard if I could switch seats, and she said no. She said the seats in that section were reserved for guests of the team (which I guess means important people, not just people lucky enough to snag a ticket on the street before the game, as I did).

Question about the ticketing system
I got in and managed to get row A for September 17th against the Reds.  I kept trying to select the print tickets at home option, but the ticketing program kept giving me an error message every time I tried it.  So I picked "mail" for my delivery option and it went through.

I got my confirmation email, but I doesn't say when the tickets will be mailed to me.  Anybody know when the tickets go out?  Will I get them before the season starts or a week or two before the game date of September 17th?

One day, the dream will come true.

Just got Row B behind the plate for the Nationals in the "second chance" sale.  I'm sure glad that the other team I follow is sufficiently bad to qualify as a cheaper "Regular" game instead of a "Value" game.

for those of you who frequent wrigley
what are the chances of just stopping by the park on a gameday, especially say a game vs. the sox, and buying a ticket from a person on the street? can you always find one, sometimes, rarely? do you normally have to overpay by vast amounts?

by buckmulligan on Mar 16, 2007 12:01 PM CDT reply actions

Re
Against the Sux, it would be hard, but not impossible.  There's always - for any game - tickets available from people who have an extra.

What I've done is wait for people coming off the L at the Addison station.  This can be tricky, however, since the cops look for this and will tell you to move along.  They clearly get paid off from the scalpers, who are buying up spares to resell at inflated prices.  To get around this, I've gone up to the platform to work the crowd.  There's also minions from the scalpers up there, but rarely a cop.  The difference between me just looking for one and the scalpers gophers is very, very obvious and people who hate scalpers are happy to sell their extra at face.

Another source for tickets is along Clark, where several of the bars have a bunch of season tickets and will send someone outside to dump the extras to people passing by.  This is especially good for weekday day games, where a reasonable offer below face is usually good.

The biggest no-no is transacting business on the actual block Wrigley sits on.  If you work that crowd, you have to be very discreet and then go over to the 7-11 to do the deal.  And most people with extras have dumped them before they get there anyway, since they can't let people know without getting busted.  That's why I like the L.
