BCB March Madness Contest

Every community needs an NCAA March Madness bracket pool.  Accordingly, I've taken the liberty to create one for us over at espn.com.  Everyone is welcome, and in fact, encouraged to play.  Maddog can run the stats for his and Sparkles can choose the cute teams for hers.  It's that easy.

Head over to the Tournament Challenge game on espn.com.  Create your entry.  Then tell it you want to join a group.

The group name is Bleed Cubbie Blue.  It is a private group.
The password is SweetLou - and it may be case sensitive, so heads-up.

We can also use this diary to talk about the tournament and I'll post results after each weekend.  If you want to see a detailed look at my bracket, visit my blog in my link.

Have fun, everyone!

I guess my sig doesn't show up in the main diary entry, so I'll reply to my own to get that to happen.

Thanks for setting this up!
One note... I got into an ESPN bracket for SB Nation bloggers. You have to set up an ESPN account... if you don't already have one, be careful, because there are at least SIX check boxes that you have to UN-check unless you want to get your inbox flooded with advertising spam.

Re
Any chance you can put this in the recommended section, at least until the tourney starts on Thursday so people are more likely to see it?  I know that with so many diaries, i usually don't make it to anything but your main postings and those.

Thanks.

I've submitted the winning bracket
Al, I'll take whatever is behind door #2.  Just as long as it isn't the Neifi jersey.

Neifi jersey
I think Al would sooner part with Mark than the Neifi jersey.

In looking through ESPN's site...
... while I was over there, I noticed they cleaned up the design of their baseball front page -- seems more readable and navigable and takes less time to load.

Maybe that's a reaction to all the negative reaction to Yahoo's redesign. If so, good for ESPN.

Get those picks in!
We're building a nice pool, with 15 BCB readers already signed up.  The pool closes tomorrow at the tip-off of the first game, which is, I believe, just after noon Eastern time, or 11:00 AM in Chicago.

Get those picks in!

ESPN...
...said we could enter 5 sheets, so I did.

However, if you want a "Sheet of Integrity", go with the "Goat Grazing in Quantico" submission.

If it's open season with 5 sheets, all mine are in play.

Re
What would an NCAA bracket pool be without multiple entries.  Feel free to enter to the limit.

by Jed Taylor on Mar 15, 2007 4:54 AM CDT up reply actions

Same here...
except I only entered 3, since I'm essentially picking randomly.  I'll go on record as saying my initial set of picks (Molechaser 1) are my "real" picks, though.

"Real" Picks
I'll get back to you in a couple of weeks with my "real" picks.  Until then you'll just have to make do with my picks that are designed to make the rest of you feel good about your ability to pick college basketball games.

National Bracket
There's a theory that the overall estimates of a group will, in the aggregate, be more accurate than the same estimates of one individual.

As a non-scientific test of this theory (since we're not using the BCB group but rather everyone on ESPN), I've added a bracket to the pool called National Bracket.  This bracket is based on the National Bracket on the ESPN site which shows which team, in the aggregate, everyone favors in each matchup, and by what percentage.

We'll see how the masses do against our own group.  They have OSU winning the whole enchilada.

by Jed Taylor on Mar 15, 2007 9:04 AM CDT reply actions

Hmmm.
I have Ohio State winning, too. Usually, I get this completely wrong.

Pitt and the Big East bruisers....
I've got Pitt to win it all. I am a little worried though after seeing Georgetown play. Maybe Pitt and the Big East isn't as tough as I thought it was.
