Ryan Dempster is training to be a Ninja...

So he says. He also has a goal of 50 saves this year. Both were said with a straight face apparently. Lets hope his optimism translates into the Cubs winning alot of games.

He's already been Captain America and a Hooters girl, so I almost find it natural he wants to be a Ninja as well.

That is too funny.
Dempster is a guy who could pull that off with a reporter with a straight enough face that the reporter probably really couldn't figure out if he was pulling his chain or not.

50 saves? That'd be great. I hope he gets them. There have been ten fifty-save seasons in baseball history. Two of them belong to Cubs -- 51 by Rod Beck in 1998, and the club record, 53 by Randy Myers in 1993.

Yeah
Dempster is a riot. I actually met him at Woody's bowling thing a few years back when he was dressed as a Hooters girl. Had a pic of him in it at the Convention and he signed it.

I cannot tell you how ashamed...
...I am that I did not get this into the morning headlines. It would have lead! Oh it would have lead.

He's been training with a sensai in Vancouver. You can't buy this stuff, I swear.

With the death
of Captain America, one might suspect that this is just a cover for his secret training to take up the shield and become the new Captain America.

I, for one, am OK with a Canadian Captain America.  Maybe he'll call himself "Captain North America" and put a little maple leaf inside the star on his shield.

Hot tubs are bad enough
With the propensity Cubs pitchers have for getting injured, this sounds like a really bad idea.... Although not as bad as the decision some editor made to have this go through as a subheadline: "Dempster wants to be ninja; will he come to his senseis?" If a story is about humor, one should be careful about sounding like an idiot in the header!
