LaRussa Arrested For Suspicion of DUI
Looks like Tony is trying to drink his sorrows away with the pitching staff he has this year:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070322/ap_on_sp_ba_ne/bbn_cardinals_larussa_dui_2
"The 62-year-old LaRussa gave two breath samples and was determined to have a blood alcohol content of 0.093 percent, Jupiter police said in a statement. Florida's legal driving limit is 0.08 percent."
Lock him up and throw away the key.

Just a joke
Still, Tony has been a naughty boy.

I wouldn't call it over-reacting...
It turned out he didn't, but the fact remains that because he chose to drink and drive he was a dangerous weapon on the highway with the potential to kill innocent people, and that is just disgusting in my book!
A lot of people don't realize that over 16,000 people were killed in drunk driving-related accidents last year in this country! Last time I checked that is about 15,000 more people who died than were killed in Iraq.
Sorry, but I have no sympathy or tolerance for anyone who decides to drink and drive on our highways.

I was about to get really political
Mind you those numbers also don't consider civilian casualties.
None of this is intended to discount the seriousness of driving drunk - don't do it, call a cab, call a friend, call family, or walk.

thanks....
I was ONLY comparing deaths resulting from drunk driving in America (approx. 16,000) to number of American servicemen (in Iraq) who have been killed in the last year (which is approx 1,000).
My point is that we (as a nation) freak out about approx 1,000 US soldiers dying in war every year, but hardly even think about the 16,000 US citizens who die from drunk driving accidents in the same year.
I' not trying to be political--I'm just looking at the numbers and asking why?

But is it realistic............
Going into last year, didn't Jeff Suppan, Jason Marquis and Sidney Ponson seem like better options?
Wainwright was key when the Cards dealt JD Drew to the Braves several years ago, and I think he will be a good arm. That being said, he's still a rookie starter in the NL this year.
Carpenter is solid, but after that there are many question marks on the Turdbird staff - and that's without discussing their bullpen!!

who cares
I suppose they should also be afraid that Derrek Lee is batting over .500 in the Cactus league? No. These numbers are hardly projectable. If I remember reading correctly, Jason Marquis had an ERA under 2 in the Grapefruit league last year, and we all know how he did during the regular season.

I was thinking
I don't like drunk driving either, but I am willing to cut SOME slack for a first offender.
Repeat offenders (who don't learn the first time) need to be punished severely, imo.

I would bet
Make an example out of him, I say. But that's only because I think he's an asshole of a manager.
