Opening Day

Is anyone else going to Opening Day in Cincy?

I've landed four tickets 12 rows back of the Reds dugout.  Great seats, but wrong side of the field.  I am coming out of my skin waiting for the day to arrive.  I've never been to an Opening Day, and from what I hear Cincy organizes one of the best.

I know Bush was there last year to throw out the first pitch, has anyone heard who will be there this year?

I'm like a kid counting down the days and hours until Christmas morning!  Lets play ball.

I'll be there
Im in the upper deck behind home plate.  I'm going to the game with all reds fans.  Blah.  I'll wear my cubbie blue with PRIDE.  I'm so excited to see Soriano's first at bat with the Cubs.  I hope he hits one deep.

Seeing Fonze's first official at-bat
in cubbie blue may be my claim to fame.

I'll be wearing a blue jersey with pride as well!

Old Style
I may try to sneak some in, just to give it a little more of a Wrigley feel.  :)

Dusty Baker is one of the commentators...
... on the Braves/Mets game they are carrying.

ahh...
thanks.

And to think, I was actually upset that I forgot to set the tivo to record it today. I don't feel so bad about it now.

Haha!
I'm totally watching it now.

re: Dusty Baker is one of the commentators...
I'm at work, so if any of you lucky enough to witness this care to scribble down a few of Dusty's choicer quotes, I'd be much obliged. Humor keeps us all young, people.
I didn't have the ball, bitch!

Geez
He made it seem like there was some very important breaking news story out there.

I immediately started to think there was a big trade or Zambrano was signed.

The only thing worse then the White Sox, is White Sox Fans. Thank God im a CUBS FAN!

Reaction to Lou
How do you think the Reds fans will welcome back Sweet Lou?

Was that fight with Dibble in the club house his last season in Cincy?

by NashvilleBlue on Mar 28, 2007 12:29 PM CDT reply actions

It would be fun to be in Cincy...
But I'll just be taking the day off work to drink at the bar with my family just like last year.

by bakester on Mar 28, 2007 12:31 PM CDT reply actions

This year....

Dick Cheney will be throwing out the first pitch.

He assured me that the Reds will welcome us as liberators.

Reds
The Cubs could have some trouble opening in Cincinnati. They'll have to face two very good starting pitchers in Bronson Arroyo and Aaron Harang, probably on Opening Day and in Game Two of the series. I wouldn't be surprised if they were 0-2, or at best 1-1 after those two games. The Cubs had no luck hitting Arroyo the time I saw him at Wrigley last September.

The starting lineup
... for that game was:

J Pierre CF
R Cedeno 2B
A Ramirez 3B
J Jones RF
M Murton LF
S Moore 1B
C Izturis SS
H Blanco C
J Mateo P

While some of those players are still on the team, I'm thinking this year's lineup is quite a bit better than that one.

Two years in a row
I will be going to the game with my three daughters.  We went last year and really enjoyed it.  The Reds have a LARGE parade in downtown with many people for openning day.  There were many Cubs fans there, but not as many as other Reds games; many Reds fans come on openning day as a tradition, including several on the scoreboard that had come each year for 50 some years.

Since our President, George W. Bush was there last year there were a few changes.  The park openned FOUR hours early for security.  When you entered the park, there was the normal bag search, but then the US Secret Service were there with airport-style metal detectors you had to pass through.  The Secret Service would not let fans bring baseballs into the park for security reasons.  (SS agent: "I am sorry no baseballs are allowed into the park today."  16 year old daughter: "Then how are they going to play baseball?")  After we were not arrested (thankfully) the SS explained that people could put a small bomb into the ball and throw it at the President.

Many of the Cubs players came over to sign.  However, the next series in Cincy there was a rainy day where no one took Batting Practice and at least 15 players came over to sign.

Haha,
people could put bombs in baseballs and throw them at the president, thats a good one.  People could do anything.
Soriano+ DLee + Ramirez = 1 Damn Good Meat of the Lineup AND Zambrano + LILLY + Marquis + Hill = Playoff Bound Cubbies!!!

AURGH!! I tried
to get the openers but didn't get picked in the lottery.  I'll be in Cinci on Thursday for the 12:35 game.  Marquis is scheduled to go that day.  Not sure who the Reds are throwing.  Great American is an excellent place to watch a game.  I go at least 10-15 times a year and hit at least one game for every Cubs series.  Usually most of my live games are here in Louisville at the Bats games (Reds AAA affiliate).  Also just got my tickets for the April 22 game in Nashville for the Iowa Cubs game.  Hoping to see Pie tear it up.
HOF!? Jerks... I support Al 110%!

My friend in Cincinatti
My friend in Cincinatti is going and everytime she goes to see the Reds and Cubs the Cubs win which is bad for her since she's a Reds fan.

The Great American Ballpark is a real nice park.  I was there when Sammy hit #500.

For Cub fans spring training combines the eternal hope of spring with the irrational belief in the impossible.

Bartman=Cubs Fan!
He has nothing to apologize for, he's a great fan.  The pathetic minds at ESPN can't get beyond anything but glitz and catch phrases...

I'll be there
and the next two games.  Opening Day Chris and I will be on the third baseline in section 110, about 12 rows back. Husk, I'll only be a few sections over from you!! :)

We should have a BCB mini-get together behind home plate sometime during the game!

WOODY!!!!

Husk
Just kidding... I'm flipped around. I'll be on the opposite side.

p.s. Those are some fantastic tickets you scored!

129
I'm out of town right now, and don't have the tickets with me, but I believe we are in section 129 ... I'll want to get there plenty early so maybe anyone who is there could meet up before the game?

by NashvilleBlue on Mar 29, 2007 9:05 AM CDT up reply actions

Gates open
an hour or so before, I'd imagine.  Perhaps any BCBers that want to grab a beer beforehand can meet at a specific place.
WOODY!!!!

By the way
I took a tour of the stadium today and it looks fantastic.  They've built a double decker "rooftop" of sorts above the batter's eye for private parties.  (I asked about altered wind currents, but they didn't know - sigh...Cincinnati)
I also viewed a new "party" suite that is mid-construction and it looks awesome.

I don't know if it's Castellini's influence or what, but it seems like they are making some great upgrades.

I'm so excited for Monday!!!

WOODY!!!!

I went last year,
Dempster loaded the bases with 1 out or so, and we got out of the jam and won by 1 run. It was amazing.
