Around SBN: 2011 In Extreme Home Runs

Ramblings

of a mad man. Cubs, 2007. Unexpected happenings. Wood ends up not as closer but a starter. Soriano ends up at 2nd base. Pie is the center fielder. Isturiz has steller season. Murton hits 25 homeruns and drives in 90. Lee is Lee and Ram is Ram. Carlos, well again he will win 16. Barrett still can not throw anyone out, but will hit his 16 HR and drive in his 56 rbi's. DeRosa ends up where he should be, a utility player. Hill will look great at times, and awful at times. He will become the Cubs version of Grossman. Good Hill, bad Hill. Marquis will quiet all the fans already calling for his head. Jones will continue to run the bases badly and still have a weak arm in the OF. Oh and hit his 20+ homers and drive in his 70+ runs.

Point I am trying to make is this. The wonderful thing about baseball is that for all the banter, the speculation prior to the start of the season, you can be sure things will happen that no one or any of us can forecast. Bring on '07 and let the chips fall where they may!

a few things
Wood will not be a starter. Soriano will not be at second base, ever. Jones' base running will not be like last year. as for good/bad, we could say that about any of our starting pitchers ;/

Thank you
for the reply. Again the point I was trying to make is that many things can and will happen this season that no one could predict. I am not saying Wood will be a starter, or Soriano will end up being the 2b. But stranger things have happened that no one could see coming. That is what makes this site as well as any baseball conversation interesting. Different thoughts, ideas about our team, the Cubs. Or baseball in general.

I would be pleased with Soriano at second
He can only be classified as "pretty good" as an outfielder, but he's an elite offensive second basemen. I'd like to see the Cubs keep Jones in right, and then bring Pie up for center field (possibly even switch them, depending on Pie's arm--I haven't really seen it--because Jones is actually pretty serviceable in terms of tracking and catching balls....it's the throwing that kills him). Then, if Pie crashes and burns, we still have DeRosa as a backup for second base, and we can then put soriano in the outfield.

Pie isn't going to be an elite outfielder. I'm quite sure he'll have some pretty decent/solid seasons, but at this point he is what he is. He's probably ready to come up now. I do think he'll be solid. This is actually the perfect time to test him out, since we have failsafes installed right now in case he doesn't play well. Once Jones is gone, and Pie is "the guy" I don't want to see him struggling mightily when he could have easily been brought up and tested this year.

Baby, you got a stew goin'
