Minor League Round-up: 4/18/07

Todays report includes pitching appearances from two of the organization's top pitching prospects.

Iowa 8 - Albuquerque 0

  • Pitching Notes: Solid pitching tonight on the part of Les Walrond and John Webb. Walrond tossed 6 innings, giving up 4 hits, walking none while striking out 4. Webb got the three inning save, allowing 2 hits and striking out 1.
  • Hitting Notes: Angel Pagan made the most of his start, going 2-5 with a 2b and an RBI. He scored 3 runs. 3B Michael Fontenot went 3-5 with 2 doubles and 3 RBIs. LF Scott Moore went 2-4 and scored 2 runs. Carlos Rojas went 2-5 with an RBI. Micah Hoffpauir went 1-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI.
  • Other Notes: Errors for Angel Pagan and Les Walrond.
  • Tennessee 5 - Chattanooga 2
  • Pitching Notes: Sean Gallager went 6.2 solid innings, giving up 2 ER on 5 hits. He allowed 3 walks and K'd 8. Geoffrey Jones notched his first save of the season, striking out 2 in a perfect 9th.
  • Hitting Notes: Chris Walker went 2-4 with a walk in the leadoff spot, scoring 2 runs. Matt Craig went 2-4 with a double and 2 RBIs. C Tony Ritchie went 2-4 and scored a run.
  • Vero Beach 6 - Daytona 4
  • Pitching Notes: Jeff Samardzjia threw 5 solid innings giving up 2 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits, walked 2 and struck out 1. Billy Petrick struck out 2 in 2/3 of an inning of relief. Grant Johnson gave up 1 run on 2 hits in 2 IP, striking out 3. Jerry Blevins  struck out 2 in 1 IP. The real damage was done against Jon Mueller, who relieved Samardzjia. Mueller lasted 1/3 of a inning, surrendering 3 ER on 5 hits.
  • Hitting Notes: SS Matt Matulia and LF Jesus Valdez each went 2-4. Not much offense besides that as Jake Muyco, and Mark Reed each collected one hit.
  • Other Notes: The D-Cubs committed three errors in this one (Samardzjia, Kyle Reynolds and Matulia)
  • Peoria @ Great Lakes - Postponed

    Wednesday's game was rained out. The Chiefs and Loons will play a double header on Thursday.
