Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

report from SF

went to a couple of games out here this week.

first, saw marco scutaro beat the yanks with a walk off dong.

then saw the giants beat the hated cardinals in extras last night. well, to be honest, i saw barry bonds tie up the game at 5. then i left, because it was freezing. in the 40's, windy. but more importantly, these two teams are horrible. just awful. pathetic at bat, followed by pathetic at bat. it's amazing that either of them ever win a game. i mean, the cubs are talented and find stupid ways to lose. these teams are just horrid.

basically, if bonds doesn't hit, the giants don't win. and if pujols doesn't hit, the cardinals are pretty bad. eckstein had two really nice, long, vintage eckstein at bats, one of which started a two out rally. and omar vizquel is still an amazing fielder. but other than that, it's pretty bleak.

as for the parks and the fans, well...both parks offer surprisingly good views. the oakland coliseum is kind of a dump. but it's dirt cheap ($28 for a box seat four rows off the field). AT&T is really nice, really well done...but pretty expensive.

and the fans of both teams are unbelievably quiet. they never really make any noise. 2 outs and your pitcher's got two strikes on him? no noise. men in scoring position? no noise. barry's not up? not a sound. kind of pathetic, really...

Fuck Bonds
Media whore, asshole, I wish the earth itself would simply swallow him up so as we can stop hearing about this.

McAfee
is probably better with the 'tarped' upper deck.
The Pads did that @ Qualcomm for one season when they were horrid. At least the fans are all grouped together, and can make some noise....

And, we will be hearing a LOT about Bonds very soon, so, Faith --  you'd best avert your eyes and cover your ears. It's unfortunate, but he will have the record soon.

I note that Henry Aaron said he won't be there when it happens. Hammerin' Hank -- remains a class act....why be a part of a sham?

tarped upperdeck
I heard that there were a lot of fans that were upset about that. Apparently there were a lot of people that used to walk up the day of the game and get UP seats for cheap.

As for Bonds...I stopped caring. I'm no longer upset, sad, frustrated, or anything else. Bonds breaking the record is just another sporting event happening in the background.

I was at the game...
...yesterday as well (out here on business).  I stuck it out until the end of the 11th.  Of course I sat on the Muni until the game was over anyways.  It was cold and I had been up since 6AM CDT so I decided to leave.  It killed me because I never leave early.
