Cubs officially for sale

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2821964

From the article:

CHICAGO -- Tribune Co. said it plans to sell the Chicago Cubs at the end of the 2007 baseball season, putting one of its most valuable assets on the block as it simultaneously announced Monday that real estate magnate Sam Zell was acquiring the media conglomerate.

Anyone have a cool $600 million I could borrow?

Not a bad return on a $21 million investment.
Can't wait for the days when people are wishing that Tribco still owned them.

Yea great point Sonny
I have no idea how a new owner will be able to top the World Series titles the Tribune Company compiled over 26 years.

A Virtual Piggy Bank?
Al, Can't you put up a virtual piggy bank for the pooled resources of BCB and make a run at this purchase? We've got almost a year to come up with the money. Maybe you could contact some of the old Usenet folks to contribute. FMR could probably purchase it himself, if he really wanted to. :)

Somewhere...
... in one of the other threads, we were taking contributions.

I think we were up to $41 the last I looked. Want to kick in some money?

Need A Better Plan
Let's figure out how to rob Mick Jagger.  Maybe that'll give us enough.

As for me, I guess I'm going to have to just play Powerball more often this year.

¡BLANCO!
