Minor League Round-up: 4/21/07

Nashville 6 - Iowa 1

  • Pitching Notes: Angel Guzman got roughed up in his first start of the year, pitching 3 innings and giving up 5 ER on 6 hits including 1 HR, with 2 walks and no strike-outs. Randy Wells pitched 4 solid relief innings, allowing 1 ER on 4 hits with 3 walks. Cory Bailey pitched a perfect inning, striking out 1.
  • Hitting Notes: Eric Patterson was back in the starting line-up and went 2-4. Scott Moore went 2-3. Koyie Hill went 1-3 with a double and scored the I-Cubs only run.
  • Other Notes: Welcome back Patterson...good day at the plate but another error. Carlos Rojas also committed an error.
  • Tennessee 5 - Mobile 0
  • Pitching Notes: Kevin Hart gets most of the credit for holding Mobile scoreless, he threw 7 shutout innings. Hart surrendered 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4. Southpaw Paul Shappert threw two hitless innings, allowing only 1 walk.
  • Hitting Notes: Leadoff man Chris Walker went 3-5 today with a 3 run HR (2). RF Josh Kroger went 2-3 with a walk and an RBI. 2B Gary Cates went 2-4 with a triple and an RBI. 3B Issmael Salas also went 2-4.
  • St. Lucie 9 - Daytona 1
  • Pitching Notes: Joel Santo fared as well today on the mound as Ron Santo often fares in the booth. The Daytona starter gave up 4 runs on 5 hits in 4 ip. He also walked 4. His immediate relief fared worse as Jon Mueller gave up 5 runs (1 ER) in two innings. He gave up 5 hits, one long ball, and struck out 3. Grant Johnson pitched 1 perfect inning in relief and Jerry Blevins allowed 2 hits in one scoreless inning.
  • Hitting Notes: 3B Kyle Reynolds went 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Matt Matulia, Chris Amador, Robinson Chirinos and Alan Rick each collected a hit. Not much offense on the part of Daytona this evening.
  • Other Notes: 3 errors on the part of the D-Cubs on Matulia, Mueller and Ryan Norwood
  • Kane County 13 - Peoria 3
  • Pitching Notes: Not a big welcome hug from the Chicago area to Ryne Sandberg. His pitching got roughed up tonight, including starter Alberto Alburquerque (insert semi-humorous comment about how Josh is supposed to do all the wrap-ups wiere Alburquerque pitches) who allowed 7 runs (4 ER) on 8 hits and 1 walk in 4 innings. Marco Carillo and Julio Castillo each gave up 3 ER in relief. Jeremy Papelbon struck out the one batter he faced.
  • Hitting Notes: RF Andrew Lopez went 3-4 with a double and 2 RBIs. 3B Josh Lansford went 2-4 and scored a run. DH DJ Lewis went 2-4. 1B Russell Canzler went 0-2 but he did walk twice. The Peoria team just isn't hitting well, with lots of starter hitting in the mid-to-low .200s.
  • Other Notes: 3 errors for the Chiefs on the part of Castillo, Matt Camp and Lopes.
