Extra Innings Activated on Comcast Cable Last Night!

I live in Wheaton, IL and the Extra Innings package was on my Comcast Digital Cable package last night.  A scroll across the bottom of my screen said I was enjoying a free preview of the service, or something to that effect.  I have digital cable, but haven't bought the Extra Innings package yet.

I plan on buying Extra Innings once the free preview is over, but I have a question.

I was able to watch the Yankees/D-Rays, Nationals/Diamondbacks and Angels/A's games last night.  However, for whatever reason, they didn't have the Giants/Padres game available to watch.  That's the one game I wanted to watch (I have players from S.F. on my fantasy team).

Why wasn't the Giants/Padres game available to watch?  How many games will I NOT be able to see if I do get Extra Innings? Anybody know?

Go Cubs.

If...
... you have had EI before, you know that at times, there's a game that you know is televised somewhere, that's bafflingly omitted from the EI list, no rhyme nor reason.

That might have been the reason last night, or maybe there were technical issues.

Glad you got it. I'll check my Comcast lineup this afternoon to see if it's available on the north side of the city.

I don't think
it was a technical issue, the Giants/Padres game wasn't listed on the menu channel that shows what channel each game is going to be on.  I guess I can live with not having every game as an option to watch.

Still, it's cool to get this free preview.  I am going to get the package, I've never had it before.  I got the NHL package for free last night too.  I had to sit through Grey's Anatomy with my wife though before she surrendered the remote though.  Much to her chagrin, pucks and balls where flying on the tube late last night.  I loved it!

One day, the dream will come true.

I got all the hockey games last night...
... but no baseball. Weird.

And my never-say-die Blackhawks

great game
i love watching the hawks on tv, even if they do pretty much suck.  it would be great if chicago could bring back a winner on the ice.

That was cool
I went and saw the Hawks win in a shootout here in Nashville on Tuesday night. I have adopted the Preds since moving here, but it is always good to see the Wings go down.

Do you know whether
the game was televised locally in SF or SD?  If it wasn't, you definitely won't get it on EI.  There are some quirks in what games you see.

For example, games at Philly frequently aren't shown since I believe Philly doesn't have a local outlet or they don't participate or something.  You definitely won't get every game on EI but you still get a lot.

Phillies...
...games are carried on Comcast Sportsnet Philadelphia, which is not transmitted via satellite anywhere.  Comcast uses this loophole to keep Dish and DirecTV from being able to carry CSN.

by jolietconvict on Apr 6, 2007 10:47 AM CDT up reply actions

Padres
are the same.  Cox televises them on Channel 4, which is unavailable on satellite.  (John Kerry ought to look into this too.)

I didn't check on DirecTV on the Giants/Padres game, but if the Giants were televising it over the air, then it wouldn't be available on EI.

Time Warner in Lincoln, NE
called me last night asking if I wanted to reorder (after I had called to order earlier in the day) saying it would be loaded on Monday.  Monday???

I called back this morning and a lady told me they thought it would be sometime today.  I'm hoping for today so I can watch plenty of games tonight.

I hope the games come on for you today
It's good to see the issue has been resolved and someone came to their senses!

The SF/SD game...
...was on local broadcast TV in both SF and SD so it wasn't on EI.  Generally, although I believe there are some exceptions such as the Twins, EI only carries games that are broadcast on the various regional sports networks (NESN, YES, CSN, FSN, etc.).  This is one advantage MLB.tv has over EI, that game was shown on MLB.tv.

by jolietconvict on Apr 6, 2007 10:50 AM CDT reply actions

The Giants/Padres
may be been broadcast on SF-over-the-air TV only. All Padres games are NOT are part of the EI package. Cox Cable SD, the holders of the Pads TV rights does not allow the games on the satellite package. Neither does Comcast Philadelphia -- Phillies games are not offered to EI. You will also never see the Blue Jays/Rogers Cablevison games, either.

Some teams have deals with their over-the-air carriers to show certain games (Twins) but that's the exception to the rule.

In the continued saga Is-the-free-preview-on-or-not with my carrier, Time Warner SD, yesterday, the day games were available. The night games were not, and a tech (not a customer service rep) said that was an 'error' and the free preview shouldn't  be available until SUNDAY. (Last night's games were not available.) Of course, checking the channels today -- the EI  billboard is up, and the games are seemingly available.

At the local level, the cable systems are so screwed up it's beyond belief. Nobody seems to have the correct information. TW told me they can't sell the games until Saturday.

After reading your post
fired up the TV here (Time Warner LA 11:14 am PDT) and all I see is NHL Center Ice followed by "To Be Announced" channels. EI is not found anywhere.

Yep, Time-Warner...Situation Normal All F&#^ed Up.

The Twins
And the Royals, I think, have games that are over-the-air in the Twin Cities or Kansas City but are on cable in secondary markets like Duluth or Wichita.

That's why those OTA feeds are on EI,

by Josh Timmers on Apr 6, 2007 1:39 PM CDT up reply actions

John, I think in KC all games
are on RSTN -- even some over-the-air games on a KC UHF TV (KMCI) station are also on RSTN, all of their games are eligible for EI. If they turn up on some other small market TV stations, that wouldn't exclude the games from the package because those stations are not the orginator of the b'cast, RSTN is.

by San Diego Smooth Jazz Man on Apr 6, 2007 10:16 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah
That was my point.  Normally Over-the-air games aren't on EI, but if they are on a cable channel and over the air, then they can be on EI.

Chicago north side Comcast...
... has the games as of this afternoon... the Red Sox/Rangers game is on right now.

They had to create some new channels because the hockey games are still on some channels that baseball is usually on. Unfortunately, they didn't say what channels these were -- had to flip through a bunch of other stuff before I found them.

But hey -- minor inconvenience. EI IS BACK !!!

Comcast Nashville has EI this afternoon
I am also watching the Red Sox and Rangers. But, the channel is still showing up as NHL Center Ice. That was tricky....

by LT on Apr 6, 2007 2:35 PM CDT up reply actions

..comcast
Watching FSN Wisconsiin feed (it's in High Def...unglike WGN).....via the free EI....
Hockey has channels 770-774, EI 775-785....780-85 being activated today.....

My have to buy this just for the hi def alone.....

This is one of the rare times the NHL is still on
when MLB starts. I don't remember this overlap the past 2 years. (Of course 2 years ago the NHL didn't exist)

I was induced to bundle my phone, internet, and cable by TW SD -- $16 bucks a month for the phone, 120 -- that's 120-dollars for the MLB package if I did this. (So, I left A T &T.)

No brainer -- it saves me money, so I pulled the trigger.
