Only Pure Joy From This Diary...

There's nothing I like more then writing a post on BCB after a nice Cubbies victory.  I have 6 words that are probably more premature then anything that has ever been said here, I can't wait until the fall.  That's right, I said it.  I guess technically it's 7 words but who cares.  We have a team here, ladies and gentlemen, that's capable of great things.  This is not meant to guarantee anything because, well, nothing in life is guaranteed.  Just like Wood and Prior are no longer guaranteed, but again, who cares.  From what I've seen, I like our chances against anyone...

I've seen signs too Al

The last two games we have looked like a team on a mission.  And although this obviously can't last for 157 more games, but......wait, what if it can?  What if Wade Miller is a solid #5 starter (which I'll take) and our other four starters just keep pitching like they have been?  I'm ranting, let me get back on track here.

I have grown to appreciate MLB.tv because, to tell you the truth, it's nice to hear another team's perspective from their broadcasters.  It's especially nice when all they constantly talk about is how, "this cubbies line-up is gonna do some work this year" or, "YIKES" after Z K's the side in the first inning, or, "there aren't too manyy first basemen who make that play".  It's nice, FOR ONCE, to be respected and almost feared.  That is why I can not wait until the fall, with the talent on this cubbies team (and possibly added talent with wood and/or prior) there is no reason to be contending for something come the time the ivy is going through it's beautiful foliage.

And of course I can't go through any sort of diary without mentioning Lou Piniella.  Again, it's early, but I absolutely love what he's teaching these 'kids' and just his impeccable timing in every asset of the game.  Let's keep it goin, and until something bad happens, I'm gonna keep writing these random diaries.

Your right
This looks like a team on a mission.  And Lou Pinella is playing and will continue to play a big part with this team.  We look like a fluid, smart baseball club, except for a few plays here and there.  I'm really excited.  I could go on for an hour, but i have to leave for the game.  I'll bring us home a win.
Go Cubs!

Tap the Brakes!
No one is more optimistic than I (well, maybe Al is) but I think we need to slow down just a little lest we all end up doing a manic U-turn in a month or so.  Yeah, the team really looked good in their three wins.  They looked pretty awful in their losses too.

First, Fonzie needs to at least give the appearance of plate discipline.  I haven't kept the exact numbers but it appears he is coming up regularly with people on base (the guys in the 7 and 8 slots like Izzy) and he is squandering his at bats.  He could easily have several rbis by now.  Yeah, I know he is a hacker but....

Secondly, when the bullpen sucks, it sucks really bad.  We can't expect perfection, but I think it reasonable that we can expect strikes.  Make the other team earn their wins.  It ain't rocket science and Lou's the one to press the point.

I think too, we can expect Marquis to stink every so often.  He isn't going to win the Cy Young and we all know that deep down inside.

Lastly, we need to not even think of Wood and Prior anymore.  They need to be dead to us.  If they (appropriate for Easter) rise from the dead, then fine.  In the meantime, they are mere mortals and not a part of the equation at all.
Talk of them is just bad juju!

Now that I've let out my inner demons, I agree that we have the makings of a very good baseball team.  I'd sure like to get the sweep of the Brewers.  I think it will do a lot for the overall confidence of the team.
