Bozo Murton and his Grand Prize Game

I'm not going to bother posting anything meaningful about Murton now. My opinion is well known: I'm not a big fan of him or his game, but he's definitely not worthless.

That being said, I feel compelled to post this nice picture that Ryno took of Murton when he didn't have his makeup on, and wasn't wearing his orange wig: in short, this is how Matt looks when he doesn't have his game face on...complements of Ryno from the matt murton weak-ass ground ball fan fest blog....sparkles--LOOK AWAY:

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation or Al Yellon, managing editor (unless it's a FanPost posted by Al). FanPost opinions are valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable baseball fans.

Lol
That made me think of the King from the Burger King commercials.  That guys got skills, maybe we could get him to play center for us.  We could have Bozo, The King and Fonzie in the outfield.

Love the King!
That guy is awesome. The wife thinks he's creepy, but I think the guy rules.

Weird
My girlfriend and my sister both get creeped out by the King.

Hmm.  wonder why.

I'm sorry but if you don't think that's creepy I don't know what to say.  Just don't sit next to me.

I should have taken a photo.
There was a kid, maybe high school age, standing behind us the other night who could have been Murton's kid brother. Same hair.

Actually, I am
As a kid I found Bozo and Cookie to be two of the most disturbing characters on the planet.  I actually met the real Bozo once.  He reeked of cigarettes and was coughing like he had emphysema.  Plus, I'll never forget the story of the guy from an adjacent town who sidelined as a clown at kid's birthday parties getting arrested for pedophilia.

John Wayne Gacy was a clown too.

So ...
Murton reminds you of ... Gacy?  That's where the obsession began?  Crikey, you do need help.

I'm tempted to label this a cheap shot...
...but Murton did have an undeniably awful game yesterday. I still haven't given up on the guy as a quality supporting player, but he does deserve some guff after what was simply a disastrous defensive performance.

Not that I love clowns that much or anything, but I don't fear them, either. Where does this fear come from?

Because if you're afraid of clowns how could you go to any Cubs game where Dusty Baker is the manager?

Clowns are creepy
Most guys who dress up as clowns are creepy, and often times perverts.  Remember Crazy Joe Davola from the Seinfeld episode?  Yet another creepy clown.  If I were U.S. President, I'd hereby ban clowns from American society.

I apologize
Several weeks ago I authored a diary entited, "Matt Murton = Scott Thompson."  In hindsight, I was wrong to make the comparison.  I would just like for Scott Thompson, his friends and family, and Cub fans who recall the late 70's and early 80's that I apologize for such a wretched comparison.  Murton couldn't carry Thompson's jock strap.

I just hope my all-time hero, Larry Bittner, doesn't get wind of my crime.

Ah, come on guys... It's so simple. Maybe you need a refresher course. Hey! It's all ball bearings nowadays. ...

Biittner
I wish you had a photo of him losing the ball under his hat.
"Hello again, everybody. Harry Caray from Wrigley Field on a beautiful day for baseball."

by danimal15 on May 11, 2007 3:44 PM CDT up reply actions

Oh, boy.
That was classic.

It happened in this game. The PBP is rather prosaic:

METS 4TH: Stearns walked; Stearns was picked off first but was safe on an error by Moore [Stearns to second]; Boisclair doubled to right [Stearns scored, Boisclair out at third (right to third)]; Flynn singled to pitcher; On a bunt Hausman struck out; Taveras made an out to shortstop; 1 R, 2 H, 1 E, 1 LOB.  Mets 3, Cubs 0.

What really happened was that Biittner, playing RF, had the ball fall under his cap, which had fallen off. We saw it in RF, sitting behind him, and kept yelling, "Hat! Hat!" till he picked it up and threw Boisclair out at 3B.

Only 5,827 people can say they saw that in person. I was one of them.

I can't believe you were there, Al! Seems like you've never missed a game. I think I watched that one on TV. I was eight.

Actually, I would have probably been sitting in my third-grade classroom at the time that happened, so I'm not sure why I remember it. Maybe I saw it replayed that night.

Hebner
killed us that day, didn't he? The 1979 Mets were an awful club. For a long time, I was very glad the Mets were in the division because they always kept the Cubs from finishing last. Of course they finally started improving in 1983, 1984.

Wow
Murton sucks. Why would anyone think he was a quality ballplayer. I don't care if he's cheap, they could be paying him fifty bucks a game and it would still be too much. Name one good thing he has done for the club. I do think the Cubs should be playing him everyday though...only to get other teams intersted in a trade involving him. He is an absolute butcher on the basepaths and not much better defensively. I swear to you, I can run the bases better than Bozo, and I'm 39 pounds overweight and slow. Oh wait he does take a walk every now and then....OMG.....finally. A Cubbie who will take a walk, and hit a ton of weak ass grounders. I can guarantee you he goes to the dish looking to walk. Even HE knows he can't hit. Murton sucks!!!
