Seems the Phillies feel Ted Lilly got lucky yesterday. I was at the game yesterday and Lilly pitched a gem. The Phillies seem to talk a lot (Rollins comments about the Phillies being the team to beat in the NL East)
Philadelphia Daily News:
"There was one pitch we couldn't hit today: the fastball down the middle," said Rollins, hitless in his four tries. "The truth is the truth. Sometimes pitchers have good stuff and you can't beat them."
"It was one of those days," Nunez agreed. "He got away with throwing balls down the middle. It was his day today."
"[Lilly] got away," Abraham Nunez said. "He didn't overpower anybody. We were just fouling off balls and popping them up."
"It was mostly us," Rollins said. "He threw fastballs down the middle and everybody missed them. Truth is the truth. Sometimes a guy has nasty stuff and you beat him. Sometimes he has regular stuff, nothing special, and you can't find a way to get it done.
"He had nothing special. His fastball topped out at 88 [m.p.h.]. He was leaving pitches over the plate, but we took the fastballs down the middle, and we swung at the ones a little up, and he had his curveball working."
Wonder if Jimmy still feels they are the team to beat in the NL East??
