Iowa 6 - Sacramento 4 (10 innings)
Pitching Notes: Les Walrond got the start today and put up a mediocre bottom line; 6 IP, 3 earned runs on 8 hits and 7 walks, striking out 3. Carmen Pignateillo allowed 1 earned run in 2 innings of work. Clay Rapada allowed 3 hits and struck out 3 in 2 scoreless innings of work.
Hitting Notes: The I-Cubs came from behind, tying the game with 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th, then winning the game in the 10th on Mike Kincade's 2 run HR. Kincade went 3-5 with a walk, falling a triple short of the cycle. Kincade also scored 3 runs. E.Patt went 2-5 with a walk. Felix went 1-5 with a walk. Each scored a run. Micah Hoffpauir went 2-5 and Buck Coats went 2-4. Ronnie Cedeno went 0-3 with a walk and was promptly picked off. Iowa took 8 free passes but stranded 14 runners.
Fielding Notes: Les Walrond had an error. Otherwise, slick fielding as the team turned 3 DPs and Pie nailed a runner at the plate.
Tennessee 6 - Chattanooga 4
Pitching Notes: Wade Miller made his first rehab start, throwing 5.2 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 7 hits, 2 walks and 1 strike out. Seems like nothing earth shattering and Len Kasper mentioned on the Cubs telecast that Miller was still showing decreased velocity. Even more note worthy to propsect watchers is that Donnie Veal came in as a reliever in the 6th, threw 2.2 innings, allowed 1 run on 3 hits, 4 walks, striking out 3, notching the win. Geoffrey Jones faced 1 batter, struck him out, earning his 5th save of the season.
Hitting Notes: Tennessee put up a big 8th inning, scoring 5 runs to come from behind. Jake Fox went 4-4 with a solo HR and 2 runs scored. 1B Issmael Salas went 2-3. Carlos Rojas went 1-3 with a double and 3 RBIs.
Fielding Notes: Jake Fox, playing LF today had an assist, nailing a runner at 3B.
Vero Beach 2 - Daytona 0
Pitching Notes: Mitch Atkins was the tough luck loser, allowing 1 unearned run over 7 innings. He allowed 4 hits and 2 walks, striking out 4.
Hitting Notes: 1B Ryan Norwood went 2-3. Matt Matulia had a triple, Jesus Valdez a triple and Robinson Chirinos a single as Daytona collected 5 hits.
Fielding Notes: The error by Daytona was an erant pick-off throw by Atkins.
Peoria 3 - Beloit 1
Pitching Notes: Ale Maestri got his first start of the season after a lot of success in relief. Likely on a pitch count, he threw four innings, allowing 1 run (a solo HR) on 3 hits, a walk and 1 K. Solid relief all around, including 3 strong innings by Jayson Ruhlman, who gave up 1 hit and 1 walk, striking out 4. Rocky Roquet allowed a hit and a walk but still is unscored upon and picked up his 9th save of the season.
Hitting Notes: Yusuf Carter went 2-4 with a double and a 2-Run HR. Josh Lansford went 2-4 with an RBI. Wellington Castillo also went 2-4.
