An aside before I get into the evening's activities. I was in central Wisconsin for most of the last 30 hours, doing some tile work on a bathroom and listening to the Cubs game through the 8th. I then checked back and saw my XM display with the final score. I could only imagine what happened.
Iowa 9 - Oklahoma 2
Pitching Notes: Sean Marshall made his case again today pitching 8 innings of 1 run ball. He allowed 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3. Perhaps even more notable is who took over after him. Carlos Marmol threw .2 innings of relief, allowing 1 run on 1 hit, striking out 2. I think this is a fairly obvious sign that Marmol is being prepared to become a reliever at the major league level.
Hitting Notes: Ronnie Cedeno had a nice day at the plate going 3-4 with 2 runs scored. Felix Pie, Mike Kincade, Koyie Hill and Buck Coats each went 2-5. Pie, Hill and E. Patterson each had 2 RBIs.
Mississippi 3 - Tennessee 2
Pitching Notes: Justin Berg managed to only give up 2 runs in 5.1 IP despite allowing 11 walks and not getting one DP. Jerry Blevins, recently promoted from Daytona gave up the winning run in the 9th to pick up the loss.
Hitting Notes: Someone find out what has gotten into Jake Fox. Today he went 3-4 with 3 doubles, playing LF. Josh Kroger went 1-3 and knocked in both runs for Tennessee.
Jupiter 6 - Daytona 3
Pitching Notes: Daytona did their best Cubs impersonation, jumping out to a lead only to have the bullpen implode late. Jesse Estrada threw 6 scoreless innings giving up 4 hits and 3 walks, striking out 5. Grant Johnson allowed 3 runs on 2 hits and two walks in an inning of work. Michael Phelps allowed 3 unearned runs in the top of the ninth to pick up the loss.
Hitting Notes: Tyler Colvin went 1-4, the one hit being a 2 run HR. 1B Alberto Garcia went 3-4. Jesus Valdez went 1-4 with a double.
Beloit 2 - Peoria 1
Pitching Notes: A 2-1 pitchers dual involving Peoria, no way! Jose Pina went 6 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits. He struck out 4 and walked 1. Marco Carillo went three relief innings, allowed 1 run on 3 hits, striking out 1.
Hitting Notes: Josh Lansford went 2-3 with a double and the game's only RBI for Peoria. Russell Canzler went 2-4.
