Much of the usual tonight as Mark Holliman's stock continues to rise and Peoria continues to struggle to score runs.

Oklahoma 8 - Iowa 4

  • Pitching Notes: The I-Cubs must've thought they were on their way to an easy win as they scored 3 in the top of the first...unfortunately Oklahoma matched that in the bottom of the first. John Webb got his first start of the season... what do you expect, all of Iowa's rotation is in or is soon to be in Chicago. Webb went 2.2 innings, gave up 4 runs on 7 hits with 3 walks. Randy Wells pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief and was followed by Carmen Pignatiello, who also pitched 2 scoreless innings. Corey Bailey got hit around for 4 runs (3 earned) in his one inning of work (the 8th) and was saddled with the loss.
  • Hitting Notes: Not much for Iowa, really. Mike Fontenot went 2-3 with 2 runs scored, a triple and a walk. Geovany Soto hit a 3 run HR, accounting for the runs in the first inning.
  • Fielding Notes: Errors for E. Patterson and Cedeno.
  • Tennessee 6 - Mississippi 1
  • Pitching Notes: Mark Holliman improved his season record to 6-1 throwing a gem. He threw 8 innings, allowing 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5. His season ERA stands as a scant 1.17. Geoffrey Jones allowed 1 unearned run in the 9th.
  • Mark Holliman can hit, too....well maybe not, but he did hit a 2 run HR to help his cause. He also K'd twice. Josh Kroger went 2-4 with two doubles. Casey McGehee went 2-3 with 2 runs scored.
  • Daytona 5 - Jupiter 1
  • Pitching Notes: Scott Korber started but couldn't last long enough to get the decision. He allowed 1 run on 5 hits over 4.1 innings. Joel Santo, who has been a starter all season until tonight picked up the win in relief, throwing 2.2 innings of no-hit ball. He K'd 5 while walking 2. Darin Downs K'd 3 while giving up nothing over 2 innings to notch the save.
  • Hitting Notes: If the Florida State League was an accurate barometer for major league pitching, Brian Dopirak should be here any day now. He went 2-4 with a HR. Tyler Colvin went 1-4 with a triple and 2 RBIs. Matt Matulia and Jake Muyco each had doubles.
  • Beloit 4 - Peoria 1
  • Pitching Notes: Robert Hernandez allowed all 4 Snapper runs (2 earned) in 5 innings of work. He allowed 4 hits while striking out 3. Jayson Ruhlman walked 1 and struck out 1 over 2 innings. Rocky Roquet allowed 1 hit in 1 inning of scoreless work.
  • Hitting Notes: Josh Lansford went 2-4 with a double and 2 Ks. 2B Ryne Malone (gotta wonder if he was named for his manager), starting his second game went 0-3 but drew a walk and scored the only run. Russell Canzler went 1-3 with the RBI.
