Could Murton Help With Middle Relief?
This comes from a website that posts anything and everything, so take it with a grain of salt. It says the Cubs might be shopping Murton for for a reliever.
My question is, who could we actually get for Murton? Does this mean nobody will take Jones?

His weak arm is enough of a liability in right...
Oh, you mean in a trade.
LOL
I like Murton (unlike others on this site) but he appears to have little future with this team. If he could bring middle relief help, deal him.
actually I saw this coming the day Soriano signed
If the Cubs can get a good reliever...fantastic! And I still think that they can garner another player from Jones being traded.
Good grief

I waver on what Murton's value is
One thing I disagree on, is some fans worry that Murton will turn into a big run producer if the Cubs trade him. I just don't see that happening. I see him as a 280-290 type hitter, that could hit you 15-17 dings if he got 500+ AB's. His value may be decent for a small market club, that can hold onto him for a few years at a bargain price, but I just don't know how much he would fetch.
Ah, Orange Guy...
Funniest line from the article: "To the White Sox for Mike MacDougal?"
Ha ha -- not after this past weekend's series!
I make that trade in a nanosecond

Let's see here...
But noooooo. Knowing things would put too much of a burden on you.

Man...let it go...
But seriously, Matt Murton for Jon Rauch should have happened a month ago. Love the guy, but it's no use in trying to pretend he's a right fielder.

Brian Wilson
I saw Wilson pitch a game against the Padres in Spring Training, and he can bring it. He hit 97mph on the Peoria Sports Complex radar gun and has a terrific curveball.
Murton is likeable....
Murton and GIDP
by frustratedfan on May 23, 2007 10:16 PM CDT up reply actions
Yes, those pesky facts...
Speed
For example, the lead off hitter (particularly in the NL) is FAR less likely to GIDP. Firstly, between 20 and 25% of his AB are assured to be in a position where he can't GIDP. He leads off the game and thus automatically can't GIDP for that AB. Secondly, he follows the pitcher. The pitcher, if a runner is on with no outs, is likely to bunt any runner to second. Thus no GIDP. If no runner is on, the pitcher is less likely to get on base. Thus no GIDP. In sum, it takes a series of combinations for the lead off hitter to even have a GIDP chance.
Secondly, the runner on first makes a big difference. Batting after the catcher versus batting after the speedy center fielder, makes a GIDP more likely.
Thirdly, a player that hits after a big time power hitter is less likely to have chances for GIDP than, say a contact hitter, as the power hitter will clear the bases.
In sum, its a complicated equation, but frankly your eyes are misleading you.
