Iowa 7 - Round Rock 2
Pitching Notes: Neal Cotts went straight into the rotation at Iowa and threw three scoreless innings. He allowed 1 hit and struck out 2. Frankly I don't understand this move one bit. There are half a dozen guys with better stuff than Cotts who could be in the Cubs rotation. Why this mediocre reliever is being looked at as a starter is beyond me. Randy Wells allowed 2 ER on 2 hits in 3 innings, picking up the win.
Hitting Notes: The big hit of the game came off the bat of Geovany Soto, who hit a grand slam in the Cubs 6 run 6th inning. Nice to see the Cubs inability to deal with bases loaded situations is not organization wide. Mike Fontenot went 3-5 while Micah Hoffpauir went 3-4. Soto's grand slam was the only extra base hit of the game for the I-Cubs. Pie went 1-5 while E. Patt went 0-4. Randy Wells actually went 2-2 with a run scored and an RBI.
Tennessee 16 - Jacksonville 11
Pitching Notes: Not a whole lot of pitching highlights. Justin Berg started, went 6 innings, allowed 4 runs (3 earned), giving up 4 hits, 4 walks and 2 Ks.
Hitting Notes: No, there wasn't a windstorm, just a 5 MPH breeze blowing towards RF, but 6 HRs were hit in total. Josh Kroger, playing CF went 1-4 with one of those HRs, scoring 3 runs. Casey McGehee went 2-6 with a 2B and a HR, driving in 5 runs. Issmael Salas went 4-4 with a 2B and a HR, also driving in 5. Jake Fox, playing RF, went 2-4 with 2 walks. SS Carlos Rojas went 3-5 with a walk and 3 runs scored.
Sarasota 6 - Daytona 0
Pitching Notes: Scott Taylor, like Sean Marshall, played college ball at Virginia Commonwealth University. Like Marshall also, we was the tough luck looser tonight. He allowed 1 run on 4 hits over 6 innings, walking 1 and striking out 5.
Hitting Notes: Not a ton worth mentioning. Jesus Valdez went 2-4 and Chris Amador hit the D-Cubs only extra base hit, a double, as he went 1-4.
Lansing 8 - Peoria 2
Pitching Notes: Starter Jacob Renshaw was pretty bad, allowing 6 earned in 5.1 innings. He gave up 5 hits on 2 walks, striking out 5. Chuckie Platt didn't fare much better, allowing 2 earned over 2.2 IP. Jeremy Papelbon pitched one scoreless inning.
Hitting Notes: Peoria managed 4 hits, 2 coming off the bat of Jonathan Mota. Joshua Lansford got his cursory hit, and drove in both Peoria runs.
