Minor League Round-up: 5/25/07

Oklahoma 13 - Iowa 3

- Pitching Notes: Ryan O'Malley got pummeled, allowing 6 runs on 8 hits in 1.1 innings pitched. Carmen Pignatiello (2 innings) and Cory Bailey (1 inning) were the only relievers capable of keeping runs off the board. Former Cub John Koronka started for Oklahoma.

- Hitting Notes: Michael Fontenot was the only Iowa hitter with more than one hit, going 2-4 with a walk. Ronny Cedeno went 1-3 with a double and a walk. Iowa actually drew 7 bases on balls and stranded 11 runners.

Jacksonville 8 - Tennessee 4

- Pitching Notes: Mark Holliman got roughed up, giving up all 8 runs in 5.2 innings pitched (11 hits, 6 walks, 1 K). Despite the rough outing Holliman's ERA stands at 2.26.

- Hitting Notes: 3B Matt Craig went 4-4 with 1 run scored. Josh Kroger went 2-4, hitting 2 solo HRs. Kroger has gone under the radar but he's a lefty with a 1.015 OPS and may have put himself on the radar with a really strong start to the season.

Daytona 3 - Ft. Myers 0

- Pitching Notes: This was the lone bright spot in the Cubs system and Mitch Atkins pitched an absolute gem. He pitched 8 shutout innings, giving up 2 hits and striking out 3. He gave way to Matt Avery who walked one in notching his 7th save of the season.

- Hitting Notes: Chris Amador went 2-5 with a double. Nate Spears and Kyle Reynolds each had two hit games. Tyler Colvin actually drew two walks.

Wisconsin 3 - Peoria 2

- Pitching Notes: Ale Maestri had a solid start until he ran into problems in the 6th inning, where he gave up all 3 Wisconsin runs. He struck out 5 and gave up 5 hits in his third start since being moved from the bullpen. Of note, Josh will be happy to know that Al Alburquerque made his much anticipated return from the DL.

- Hitting Notes: Russell Canzler (2-4) and Josh Lansford (1-4) continue their hot hitting (hot hitting is relative when you're talking about the Peoria Chiefs). Yusuf Carter and Wellington Castilllo each had 2 hit games.
