Minor League Round-up: 5/3/07

OK, so this short rant is totally off topic but right now Sportscenter is on and they're going on about the fight that I assume is this weekend. Of course the media talks about how "everyone is talking about...", which is the punch line of this fight. Now ESPN is trying to tell people why no one watches fighting anymore, the unknown fighters, the non-unified belts... Folks, NO ONE GIVES A DAMN! People don't watch boxing and few people that I know of are talking about whoever vs DeLaHoya. No one cares!

Nashville @ Iowa - Postponed

On account of rain...no make-up has been announced

Birmingham 5 - Tennessee 0

  • Pitching Notes: Kevin Hart was the tough luck loser, pitching seven quality innings. He gave up 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 7. Paul Schappert allowed a three run HR in his one inning of work.
  • Hitting Notes: Tennessee got 4 hits in this one, two of them off the bat of 3B Matt Craig, who hit a double. Single hits for Kroger (2B) and Cates. Of note, Brian Dopirak was the only batter in the first seven in the Tennessee line-up not hitting above .300 for the season.
  • Jake Fox position watch: DH
  • Dopirak-0-meter: .177 (0-4 with 1K)
  • Daytona 5 - St. Lucie 4
  • Pitching Notes: Mitch Atkins did his best to show he belongs on the Cubs big league staff, pitching quality innings in his start, however he only lasted 4 innings. He gave up 1 run on 5 hits with 5 Ks. Matt Avery blew his second game of the season but notched the win.
  • Hitting Notes: Tyler Colvin went 1-3 with a K. Oh, that one hit was a HR. Oh, and there were 3 runners on when he hit the HR. RF Ryan Harvey went 2-4. Alberto Garcia went 2-3.
  • Peoria 6 - South Bend 3
  • Pitching Notes: Jacob Renshaw had a quality start, throwing 6 innings of 3 hit 1 run ball while striking out 4. Charlie Platt gave up 2 ER on 4 hits over 2 innings. Oscar Bernard notched his first save of the season with a scoreless 9th.
  • Hitting Notes: Peoria managed to score 6 runs while only getting 7 hits. RF Alfred Joseph had the only multi-hit game, going 2-3 with a walk. Matt Camp went 1-3 with a walk, scoring 2 runs as he is just .002 points shy of the Mendoza line. Wellington Castillo and Yusuf Carter each drove in 2 runs.
  • Other Notes: Manager Sandberg likely was not happy with the three errors tonight at the hands of Dylan Johnson, Matt Camp and Russell Canzler.
