sammy sosa gets beaned...

sammy just took a pitch to the head. scary sight, and bizarrely familiar. not sure i've ever heard of anyone getting hit in the head twice in one career.

this one wasn't nearly as bad as the one in pittsburgh, but it was still scary. sammy was shaken up and left the game. hope he's ok. i may be in the minority here, but i'm happy he's playing decently this year, and am looking forward to him hitting #600.

(as i type this, kyle farnsworth slipped on the mound during his follow through. the yanks entire coaching staff jumped up thinking "please don't let him be hurt!" i just kept thinking "please don't let those tight pants rip!")

I don't think you are in the minority...
....on wishing Sammy well. Atleast I hope not. I was glad to see Sammy leave but I never wanted him to leave the game the way it looked like he would.

I hope he continues to do well and this beaning doesn't impair him physically or mentally.

Sammy tolerance
Sammy needed to be totally and publically humiliated after his act the last few years in Chicago.  His season in Baltimore, his year off, and having to be an NRI for Texas... mission accomplished.   As far as I'm concerned, we're even, and if he has a good year, he has a good year, and I don't have to particularly be a fan of his any more than I am of say Shawn Green.

Having said that, getting beaned is scary stuff.  I hope he is ok.

Sammy Sosa
I got over any issues I had with Sammy awhile ago. That being said, if he hits over 30 HR somehow and I lose this bet I got going at work I'll be a little irked.

Honestly...
... I find myself a little surprised at how well Sammy is doing after a year off, and at age 38. If he can keep this up all year, and just goes about his job, I think it would go a long way toward restoring the respect he lost here after 2004.

His reaction
I too am a little surprised at Sammy's production but after the beaning I wonder if his reaction will be the same as it was with the Cubs. He really disappeared and backed off the plate after that happened. He has little room for error at age 38, a big slump may put him out of baseball again.

I heard
After he got hit in the head, a little cork came out.

Surprised?
If everyone is so surprised at his production, maybe they should check his bat? I'm not saying he is cheating, but he's been known to do it before.

Hope he's okay...
But if I recall, after he was hit last time back with the Cubs, it took him a good month or so of at-bats to put it back together at the plate.

Does Soriano's defense at 2B really cost more runs than in LF? He makes a lot fewer errors in LF since misplays and mental mistakes aren't figured into the stats, but I have to imagine that his mistakes are more physical at 2B. Any thoughts? Is there a statistic on this?
