Sean Marshall picked up his first win of the season, allowing just three hits and striking out three in 6innings. He retired the first 10 New Orleans batters he faced in a I-Cubs win.
If Marshall can sustain this type of pitching he could be a valuable piece of the rotation or possibly long reliever. Guzman will have to keep up his performance or else Marshall could be set to take the 5th starter spot. This is a good problem to have. At the conclusion of Guzman's two more starts, Marshall will have three starts also under his belt. We will know at that time if the 5th starter spot is up for grabs.
How many of you would llike to see another left handed starter in our rotation? Is Wade Miller even an option any more? If Guzman falters, is the job Marshall's (as long as he pitches well) or do we look at Mateo? Please discuss!
