Minor League Update -- June 14, 2007

Happy Flag Day!

Iowa Cubs

John Webb, Jim Henderson, and Carmen Pignatiello pitched adequately for the Iowa squad, but lost to Omaha 3-1.  The only batters to figure out opposing starter Bill Buckner (really) were Ronnie Cedeno (4-4, 2B, 3B) and Micah Hoffpauir and Scott Moore, who had two hits each.  But Cedeno also made his sixth error.

Daryle Ward started at DH and had one K in 3 AB.

Tennessee Smokies

Chowder for everyone!  The JKMCS can roll out the barrel to celebrate their hero going 4-4 with a solo homer.  His avg. is up to .393.

The AA squad beat West Tenn 6-3 behind Kevin Hart.  Billy Petrick got the save with 1.1 hitless innings.

Daytona Cubs

In the first game of a doubleheader, the highlight was Brian Dopirak's 2-run HR, as the team hung on for a 5-4 win.

The second 7-inning game saw the Brevard County Manatees get their revenge against a series of Cub relievers.  Jeff Samardzija pitched three inning, giving up one run on three hits.  The offense only managed three hits.

Peoria non-Illiniweks

Ryno's team lost 8-6.  Jeremy Papelbon's three strong innings in relief gave some hope, along with Matt Camp's 2 for 4 day.  Yusuf Carter hit two home runs.
