Colvin gets promoted to AA after huge night!

Here is the link...

http://cubs.scout.com/2/653055.html

I know a lot of people on this site have been asking for this move for some time and now they got their wish.  Apparently the Cubs also want to see what the kid can do at AA.  I realize his K rate is of concern and some have compared him to J Jones.  However, I think a better comparison may be Jeff Franceur (sp?) in Atlanta.  His OBP aint great but he hits for power and drives in a fair number of runs.  I am hoping for a little better than that but we shall see...

It will be interesting to see if Kroeger is going to AAA in a corresponding roster move since he is just tearing it up (again another move myself and many others would like to see).

BTW- Yusef Carter was promoted to replace Colvin at Daytona.  He is the nephew of former Cub Joe Carter.

good deal
i like the moves all around. obviously i love the colvin move as i was just asking joshinla when he thought he was going to get moved up. but i would also love to see how kroeger does at Iowa. also, have heard some pretty good things about yusef. he has been hitting for some power lately and my friend said he went to a game a few weeks ago and saw him put one out estimated at around 450 ft. nice to see how he responds to A ball. thanks for the updates.

Didn't I say
around now?  Boy, I look smart now, :-)  (Actually, it wasn't that tricky of a guess.)

Good
and not completely unexpected.  I think they wanted him to have at least half a season in High A and they weren't going to promote him until after he got to play in the FSL All-Star Game.

Let's see what he can do at AA.  But even if he struggles, remember that he's going to be the youngest member of the Smokies by almost a full year.  (Donnie Veal is currently the youngest Smokie, and he's about 353 days older than Colvin.)  A twenty-one year old in AA is young.  He's the same age as Evan Longoria, who may be the biggest prospect currently in the SL.

The Smokies could use the bat, too.

Here is where Colvin begins to fail
and be overmatched. Here's where his K's begin to rise and where his swings and misses and his lack of plate discipline slaps him in the blooooody face.

Uhhh...
don't we have enough guys who hit for power with a poor OBP?  I think that's our problem.

We need people who can get on base.  If his value is the least bit high, I'd strongly consider trading him for a part we can actually use.

Why so quick
to trade prospects?  Isn't one of the complaints of the Cubs that we don't have a farm system?

Relax
he is 21, the walks will develop in the next couple of years.
