Walker robbed at gunpint

Sad story about Antoine Walker being robbed in his Northside home. According to the Tribune article sources, Walker is packing his bags and leaving the city. Sad.

And as it relates to the Cubs: the article states that Antoine Walker's uncle is Chico Walker! Who knew!!?

The point is: even millionaires (i) can be nice guys, (ii) can be robbed in nice neighborhoods and (iii) can have uncles who played a few games with the Cubs back in the day.

Interesting
I work about two blocks from there. Who would have known about the Chico Walker connection? Wow! Chico was never more than a fill-in for the Cubs, if I remember correctly. I can't even remember when he played. Sometime in the mid-80s, I'm guessing.

Chico Walker...
... first played for the Cubs from 1985 through 1987. In '86 he hit .277/.339/.376 in 101 at-bats; he was a marginally decent reserve infielder/outfielder. He was traded to the Angels for a minor leaguer who never made it, drifted around the minors for a couple of years, and then returned in 1991, when he hit .257/.315/.337 as a semi-regular (374 AB). He was waived to the Mets the following year.

When I read the topic title I thought it was about Todd.  Not some thug NBA player.

oh
by "thug" you must've meant "Most Giving Player in the NBA, as stated here: http://www.nba.com/celtics/news/antoine_goodguy_072301.html?nav=ArticleList
he also hold charity basketball games here in chicago as well as charity golf tournaments to benefit inner city schools. he's also a human being, not just "an NBA thug."

some more "thuggishness"
from walker's NBA.com bio:

"lists his two daughters as his most prized possession...majored in business management at Kentucky because he always wanted to get involved in running a business...created "The 8 Foundation" in 1997, his charitable organization which provides positive life experiences and opportunities for inner-city youth in Boston and in his hometown of Chicago, IL...headlined the 9th annual "Chicagoland All-Star Classic" for the third straight year this past August to benefit the foundation's mission...co-owns Walker Williams, a venture capital business with former teammate Eric Williams...when he is done playing we wants to play golf and run his business...enjoys baseball and football and lists his hometown Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs as his favorite teams..."

that doesn't sound very thuggy to me.

also
if you don't believe me or the NBA, then walker's usually at Hoops the Gym playing pickup games during the summer. maybe he could spare a few minutes for you...or perhaps you could join in the games...

you beat me to it
I was gonna defend walker, but you did it very well. I'm not a huge NBA fan, but i don't like it when people assume that they're all gangbangers. got to stick up for the Mt. Carmal grad

Chico was a Pagan type
had some speed and a little pop...saw him hit an inside-the-park HR at Candlestick circa 1988??
flamed out pretty quick but one of rare speedsters on those cub teams...tuffy rhodes came before him, I think, and was also memorable for his brief flash of fame (3HR opening day).

Didn't Chico also play for Bosox?? thought he had a great baseball name...been some great Chico's in baseball history

rhodes
played with the Cubs after Chico's third and final tour in 1992. Tuffy played a handful of games with the Cubs in 1993 before playing 95 in '94. He hit five HRs after opening day, FWIW.

where did you get that from?
it's not noted in the trib article. they say he was tied up with duct tape and managed to get out of after the robbers had gone.
