just think...if Mark Cuban bought the Cubs....

Just think about the ways the Cubs can improve if Cuban bought the Cubs.  He will have Zambrano resigned.  We will still have Soriano, Lee, and Ramirez.  He will supply us with the resources we need to make sure we do have a championship team.

My friend and I were just talking about it while we were watching the game today and we might have taken it a little out of hand but with alex rodriguez expected to opt out of his contract, he could be a cub.  I'm not saying this is too realistic but it COULD happen with Mark Cuban as the owner of the Cubs. I could just picture next year's line up

LF Soriano
CF Pie
1B Lee
SS Rodriguez
3B Ramirez

fill in the rest with Derosa, Theriot, Fontenot, Eric Patterson, Soto, Pagan, Murton, maybe even Tyler Colvin will be ready to man right field

Marmol I believe should be the closer and the pitching staff will be strong once again with a couple moves here or there..mainly to the bullpen

The "Cuban Cubs" would very much be a World Series winning franchise for years to come

Do we really need all these diaries about Cuban?
This talk is getting pretty old, and it is IMPOSSIBLE to say where this team will be with one owner or another - or with one manager or another - until it actually plays out...

Why not?
I'm excited over the rumors.  And I agree with the post, with his ownership, wonders can happen with the Cubs.  I would hope to see A-Rod and and Big Z on our team next year if that's the case.

Plus
I also think it's been said around here, if you don't have anything to add to the conversation you should just not post???

I don't think anyone really has much to add
Since this topic has been discussed in numerous diaries and game threads to death...

Usually..
... I'm pretty easy about diaries. But this topic has been done to death, and all Cuban did was file an application to buy the team, which puts him on a list of many other individuals and groups that are interested.

And my feeling is, I don't want him. I don't want the Cubs to be about Cuban, which it would be. There are plenty of other deep pocketed groups that could buy the team that have connections to Chicago. That's who I want.

Fair enough
I can see your point of view.

I do want Cuban to buy the team right now.  Obviously I don't know much about the other alternatives but I see him being a very aggressive owner and someone players would want to work with.

i have to disagree with you al,
i think cuban would be fantastic for the cubs. here is a man with passion! a man who wants to win and has deep enough pockets to do it. some other group would be just that, a group. that would mean they would be after a  huge profit margin every year, so we would be back in the same ol loosing boat.

The Cowboys aren't about the Cowboys
They are about Terrel Owens

The Giants are about Barry Bonds
The Lakers are about Kobie Bryant
The Heat are about Shaq
The Mavericks are about Mark Cuban

And the same way would be if he bought the Cubs -
He wants the spotlight on himself, not his players, not his team, himself.

I know
the Spurs and Mavs are huge rivals but that's just not true. Are the Spurs about Duncan? What about Wade in Miami? Were the Cubs ever about Banks or Sosa? How about the Yanks and George?

Cuban is high profile. Who cares? I just want an owner that puts the success of the team ahead of everything. Wouldn't that be a refreshing outlook?

I am a Spurs fan
And might be biased because of that.

But, watch some Mavs games.  The camera is always on him.  Have you seen him jump on the scorers table and yell at David Stern how the league is fixed?

That's definitely taking attention off the team, and not in a good way.

The Spurs aren't all about Duncan - because the Spurs play like a team and Duncan doesn't want the attention on him.  The reason the Spurs are so good is because all players work together - Parker, Ginobli, Duncan, Horry, Finley, Bowen all do what is needed to win, not to get high stats.

It's refreshing to see an NBA team play as one.

I've been
a basketball coach and I love the way the Spurs play. But you also have to admit that Johnson has the Mavs playing team ball. And yes, Cuban has been over the top at times, but he is not as dramatic as he once was.

He won't be in the Cubs dugout and if he's heard screaming at the umps over some of the fans we have, I'll be shocked. There are other prospective owners who I'd also be happy with but I just don't agree he's a maniac and would destroy the Cubs with his fanaticism. To me the most important thing is to make certain that Reinsdorf and Selig don't end up steering ownership to one of their pals. The Canning Group terrifies me.

I have to comment
somewhere about this Griffey talk. Forget it. Talk of trading Marshall or whoever is wrong. Never would you want to trade a promising young left hander with in your division.
