So, today's Tribune brings the latest wisdom to drop effortlessly from Rick Morrissey's fingertips. For reasons beknownst only to Rick and coming about a week after the fact, Rick has decided to strawman Cub fan optimism and lampoon the Cub fan's burgeoning hope, given the Cubs' midseason resurgence.
I think Rick is way off base here. Moreover, this column is mean-spirited and disingenuous. I don't know what got his Irish up, but he's decided to take it out on Cub fans with this vituperative, bilious, and altogether silly little column.
So, I put the questions to you, the Cub fans.
- Do you think the attitudes attributed to Cub fans by Morrissey accurately reflect the actual attitudes of the majority of Cub fans?
- Do you think this Cub team, as currently structured, can contend for the World Series?
- Do you think that homefield advantage in the World Series is important?
- Should the Cubs win the World Series this year, will you have "fond feelings for the guys [at Tribune Company] who wore the suits," keeping in mind that thse men have cheapskated and penny-pinched us to frustration, and added insult to injury by scalping their own tickets?
