Jose Contreras?

Apparently the Cubs were watching his last outing? Per Buster Onley....

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2007/07/all-eyes-on-con.html

Maybe he'd fair better in the NL?  I dunno, but the White Sox may take Jock Jones in return and perhaps Eyre???????  Also, this would make Marshall available for a trade to Cincy for Griffey...  Jmo, and perhaps I'm very wrong, but I'm higher on Mateo than Marshall.  Just like his attitude.  Gotta like a guy who drills Roger Clemens. lol

That's just a rumor.
I hear the Cubs were looking at various Baltimore players, not Contreras. How old is he, anyway? 50?

I think Jacque Jones to Baltimore...
for Danys Baez makes sense for everybody. Al, what are you hearing about the Orioles?

by Damen Jackson on Jul 16, 2007 2:55 PM CDT up reply actions

I was thinking...
Izturis for Baez...especially if they trade Tejada.

by Ghost of Fred Merkle on Jul 16, 2007 3:51 PM CDT up reply actions

There is not trade to be had...
with Tejada. I understand he's currently injured, and not back until after the deadline. Izturis and his expiring contract might make some sense to a team looking for insurance (think Cleveland), but since Baltimore is miles out of contention, I can't see why they would be interested.

by Damen Jackson on Jul 16, 2007 3:59 PM CDT up reply actions

And furthermore...
... why on Earth would the White Sox want Jacque Jones?

Exactly
on Jones, the Sox want young guys with their best years ahead of them, not behind.

Well that's wishful thinking...
Won't be easy to move Contreras and the $20 or million still owed........

So they can move Contreras...
What Orioles the Cubs looking at?

The Cubs are looking for relief help.
Danys Baez is available. Yes, I know he's sucked, but he just came off the DL, and has thrown 2 scoreless innings since he came back.

Tejada's injured
so they'd be looking at him sitting on the bench

Tejada
actually sits very well.  Nice form, very effective, and never complains.  He will sit anywhere...whatever is best for the team.

NUTS!
to reqoute the famed 101st commander of Bastogne!

Far too much and ineffective. My better option is to convert Dempster to a starter and live with the bullpen you got now that is effective and wait for Woody to come back harder in august.

Why do we want Ken Griffey Jr?

Do you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth?

by Keith on Jul 16, 2007 3:12 PM CDT reply actions

Honestly?
I'm not sure.  Maybe it's the beautiful left-handed swing, the power stroke, his patience at the plate, his love of Pinella, his above average defense still in RF (and arguable ability to still play CF), the improvement he would bring to our lineup, his infectious love of the game, a reputation as being pretty good in a clubhouse (certainly not a Bonds-esque plague type guy), his willingness to bat anywwhere in the lineup, and his hunger (as an older player) for that elusive title ring?

Yeah, you're absolutely right.  No reason whatsoever to have this guy patrolling RF/CF.  I'm much happier with Cliff "You break it, you buy it" Floyd or Jacques "First pitch groundout" Jones patrolling our outfield regularly.

(No disrespect meant to Floyd, who I think has done well this year, or Jones, who I think will do better this year and was adequate last year - but neither is in Griffey's LEAGUE)

I'd love to have Griffey...
I just don't want to trade a problem in RF for a problem in the rotation (by trading Marshall).

Remember: this is a guy who's missed over 400 games this decade, so to assume he'll stay healthy for the last 2-3 months is, well, a questionable assumption.

If we could get Griffey for less, I'd be glad to take that risk.  But getting rid of Marshall (or more) would guarantee a hole in our rotation that we can't fill easily.

orioles
The scouts were reportedly looking at baez and ramon hernandez. Frankly i know he was hurt but still is an upgrade behind the dish. And im sure i probly spelt his name wrong

by Kchance on Jul 16, 2007 3:52 PM CDT reply actions

Hmmm..
Ramon Hernandez?  That's interesting.  Good catcher, VERY expensive.  I could definitely see that as a possibility with the O's trying to get his salaries off the books.

Jose?
Let's see, he has 2 more years AT $10 mil and he is, only god knows, how old?  Why?   If the Cubs are watching money, this won't happen and if they watch him pitch this really won't happen.

of alot
of the trade talks i think adding cedeno with jones could get us some pretty good back. cedeno is looking good and his stock should be good. im thinking maybe jones cedeno and maybe a young arm we have for john garland. whatcha think
