Interesting Catching Stats

First of all, I am always one that says pure stats don't tell the whole story of what a catcher provides (either positive or negative) for their club.  But, I just heard some interesting stats from John DeWan (sp) that I had to share:

Barrett catching with Cubs:
record: 24-28
ERA: 4.17

Without Barrett catching:
record: 16-4
ERA:3.71

Barrett Catching for Padres:
record: 3-10
ERA: 4.10

Bard Catching for Padres:
record: 33-19
ERA: 2.55

Pretty interesting stuff.

Pretty much ....
Backs up a lot of people's thoughts around here that the Barrett trade ia contributing factor to the Cubs more recent success.

Barrett will be a RF'er like Moreland
He is a good offensive player who can't catch at the MLB level.
Milw-09-24-98--Brown in for defense--bases loaded--flyball--HE DROPPED THE BALL!!!NO NO NO, cubs lose 8-7

Too many variables
I just don't buy into these stats.  There's a lot of  information not being accounted for here.

most notably...
Who the starter was.  Most backup catchers these day have an assigned pitcher or two.  So, if the starter that you catch for stinks, then you won't look good as a catcher.

As for the Cubs records...
While Barrett's departure might have played a role in the surge over the last month, that is hard to prove, so again, it could just as easily be bad luck.  Hell, teh Cubs haven't won yet with Kendall!

Wow
Jmo but one of the smartest guys on the team should be the catcher.  I have a feeling Barrett was near the bottom in intelligence.

Good lord what a pile of shite
Talk about completely misunderstanding the application of statistics.

That's completely unfair...
... he was drawing no conclusions nor "misapplying" anything. He was just presenting some information that was of interest.

I simply presented win loss records with certain players behind the dish.
