Joey Nathan..

My friend and I, who I should add is a big Twins fan, were talking today about the situations of both the Cubs and the Twins.  He said to me that the Twins are looking to get rid of Joe Nathan in an effort to resign Johan Santana and make Pat Neshek their closer.  He said to me that he read or heard soemthing that listed the Cubs as possible suitors for Nathan.  And it would make sense.  The Cubs should be buyers, trying to solidify their bullpen.  Forget the garbage about Wood coming back being better than any trade because we all know that we cannot rely on him.  Nathan is a very quality pitcher that will be at the back end of the pen.  Just a normal conversation wondering waht all your thoughts were.. gotta head out to work..have at it

I live in Minnesota...
...and just today KFAN was discussing this very thought.  The Twins have bigger problems on their hands right now rather than Nathan; like deciding on who to sign: Santana, Moreneau, Cuddyer, and Nathan.  Nathan has been elite over the last few years, but I do not think our bullpen is an extreme need for the Cubs right now.  A consistent CF or RF is, however.

Depends on how much the Twinkies would want.
IIRC, Joe Nathan was part of the A.J. Piersynski deal to the Giants. Maybe I'm wrong.

Anyhow, I'd rather have another bat(rf) right now than a bullpen piece.

hey, hey, cubs win.

Nathan
He was part of the deal for AJ, it also brought over Liriano and Boof Bonser.

The Pioneer Press had an article a week or two ago with this same thought.  They speculate that the Twins would want young power hitters in return.

I don't know if Nathan has any kind of no-trade clause in his contract?  I only ask because at the start of the season, he reported that he would give the Twins a hometown discount to stay with them.

Well, the Cubs could make an offer
How about Murton, Wuertz, and Pignatiello for Nathan?

Nathan is the best closer in baseball
Of course it depends on what Minn wants, but I would take him on the Cubs in a heartbeat.

When Putz puts together
a couple of good years, I'll reconsider.

I have no comment on Nathan...
...but you might want to retitle this diary. For starters, "thoughts" is misspelled. But even that word doesn't describe the diary's contents. Give it a clearer title and more people might respond.

Joe Nathan
I would love to see Joe Nathan in a Cubs uniform. That being said, unless the Twins GM is insane I don't see them trading him. He is one of the best closers in the game and when he is on is pretty damn near untouchable.
