Advice on Jersey Wanted

So I open my anniversary gift and at first glance I jump out of my seat in excitement. It's a Cubs Jersey. I hug her and kiss her and say thanks. I take it out of the box and hold it up and its similar to this one . That is, until I look at the back and it's blank. So I try to disguise my sudden return to earth. It's still nice and I'm thankful, dont get me wrong. I just dont feel comfortable wearing it like this, it feels like a womans shirt. She doesnt want to tell me where or how she got it, which is weird too.

I need your help if you can 1.) advise what font would you say this looks like?  2.) where near Chicagoland do you think I can find the patches (Numbers/Letters)....  and 3.) where to get them sewn on.

I asked at a local embroidery and because the numbers are patches

Any other ideas, input, comments would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Sorry
basically the shirt shop said they only embroider, not sew on patches. And they only place orders for patches in excess of 100.

Ask at
Wrigleyville Sports, they can advise where to get numbers and/or name.

Funny recap though...good choice to play off the excitement.  It will be cool...eventually.

Try here
www.easternlettering.net

While they don't normally use the font that the Cubs use for their Jerseys, I contacted then and they said if you send then a picture of the number font, they will scan it and cut it for an extra $10.00 fee.  I was thinking of useing them to restore the numbers on a 84 Jody Davis jersey I have, but I have not pulled the trigger on that yet.

I have dealt with easternlettering before.
They DO have the Cubs numbering font. Check with them.

Wrigleyville Sports also has these numbers available. Click on the Wrigleyville Sports banner on the left sidebar for more info.

Why does
not having a number make it feel like a woman's shirt?  An unfinished shirt, sure, but a "woman's"?

And - if she doesn't want to say where she got it, that might mean she got it on sale somewhere and doesn't want you to see the price, or maybe on ebay, or somewhere she can't return it. I'm sure it doesn't mean she stole it, or bought it at the all-womens sports jersey store.

Thanks Everyone!
You guys jumped in quickly and gave me some hope.

John, I would not dare to think my wife stole it. It's actually very funny that you thought that was what I was implying. Around Wrigley many, many women wear a similar v-neck t-shirt style (mine is jersey material made by Rawlings).

I guess my brain just associates the style to women unless it has a name and/or number. I'm going to try to at least get a number on it and consider it my throwback since I hadn't splurged for one yet.

I have this Roberto Clemente that I won at a Cubs game last year. It is however still in the packaging since I haven't decided if I want to use it or sell it.

I was only messing
about that. The v-neck thing ....hmmm.

Is it a coincidence that the ad that popped up above when I opened this thread just now was for "Stylish Maternity Fashions"???

Hey
You got a Cubs jersey. That in itself is really cool. Even cooler that your woman got it for you. Mine bought me a subscription tothe jelly-of-the-month club. Hard to play off that disappointment as excitement.

I had a vendor give me a Sosa road jersey, autographed, a few years back. I have it put up, and want to get it shadow-boxed. I could get a Cubs keychain and be ecstatic.

Cool present man, and a cool woman ya got there. Good luck on your search for lettering.

Ideally, you could get drunk and try to draw it yourself with a blue Sharpie©.

Prolly wanna take someone else's advice though. :)

Thanks brother
You're the thumb guy aren't you?

If I ever see sharpie writing on any of my Cubs gear it likely means I screwed up really bad w/the wifey.

Haha...
Yep, I'm the thumb guy.

The tip of my thumb was the curse holding the Cubs back, so I just removed it from the situation. :)

Dude
that jelly of the month club thing was FUNNY!

Thanks for the laugh but as a man who loves food, I would have to say I have received worse...like the three pair of Superman Underoos when I was 8 that drove me to actually (against my better 8 year old judgement) say how much I did not like the gift to the giver.

Big family joke now...

I've seen
numbers and names for sale on ebay. Once you get the name and number any tailor can sew it on. Get the blue with red back numbers and letters. Patches can be bought at Wrigleyville sports online. Sewed that on myself.

You have to be careful
to get the right font for the numbers.  The majority of numbers I have seen are the block numbers with straight edges.  THe Cubs use a unique font for their numbers with curved edges.  Other than that, you are correct, once you buy the numbers, any tailor could sew it on for you

I might go w/this
someone mentioned Ebay and so I looked and found this.  It looks like it's part of EasternLettering.net

I checked w/the online stores but you have to ship them your jersey and wait 3-5 weeks.  I think I'm going w/Sandberg since he actually wore this type of jersey at some point. Not like that Eckersley jersey now being sold on mlb.com.

Any other thoughts?

Again, thanks for all your help guys!
