Trade, sell or call ups?

As we take a look at the all-star break on where our Cubs should go, we have some choices to make trades, sell players for prospects and/or make some call-ups. I feel we just need to look west to AAA Iowa. We are in a position to become sellers and not traders, which is a much better position to be in as opposed to unloading our farm system for a rental player for a few months. Jones, Izturis and Eyre could probably all go away and no one would miss them. Pie needs to bat, and he's not getting AB's right now. Hill is a good receiver but hitting .148.....we have to do better than that. Ivy Walls covered many "ifs" in a diary on possible trades yesterday, but I wanted everyone to take a look and other possible moves and get some discussion on what the Cubs can do, not the general trade deadline conversation and who's available from other teams.

Here are players that appear like they deserve a shot. Buck Coats, one error in 77 games, current 16 game hitting streak with 5 doubles- 5 HR-16 RBI's-12 runs scored, hit safely in 27 of last 29 games (.421 ave.). Our old shortstop who was battered around pretty good last year, Ronny Cedeno is hitting .397 before Sunday, hit safely in 15 of last 16 games, with 4 doubles-7 HR-16 RBI's and hitting .483 in this streak. Catcher Geovany Soto is playing in the All-Star Futures Games with an eight game hitting streak (.480), hitting .341 on the season with 12 HR and 55 RBI's. Micah Hoffpauir for the season is hitting .318 with 16 HR and 73 RBI's. Hoffpauir and Eric Patterson (.299, 11 HR and 45 RBI) are both playing in the PCL all star game. Pitchers Petrick, Pignatiello, Rapada all are productive. I won't even go the Kerry Wood or Wade Miller route.

I don't remember a time in recent Cub seasons where we have as many choices to improve our own team from within. With the revamped roster and the Theriot-Fontenot infusion of hustle sparking this team, especially with the sway Lou has handled them, I would think we can get another spark with adding a "youthful" player.

What's your call? Should we trade for a player or two? Be sellers only and bring up from within? Or status quo?
