Standings, a Cubs-friendly bar in NYC

Standings has been mentioned in passing as a Cubs-friendly bar in New York City.  I recently visited Standings, and I wanted to give a brief review and also draw your attention to a special Cubs event there this Friday, August 24.

Standings, located in the East Village at 43 East 7th Street, is a smallish sports bar featuring 8 flat-screen HD TVs and Extra Innings as well as a nice selection of great draft beers.  On the night I visited (after a Cubs day game), each screen showed a different MLB game.  I was able to talk at length both with a bartender and with the owner, both of whom were very friendly.  I was told that the largest contingent of Standings regulars are Boston Red Sox fans, followed by Cubs and Mets fans.  Among the baseball memorabilia adorning the walls and bathroom were several prominent Cubs items.

The bar features occasional special events.  The night I visited was termed "Extreme Beer Night" and featured several strong beers, several of which were Belgian, as well as free Vlaamse Frites.  Although small, the bar was not particularly crowded, and my friends and I were able to watch the whole array of real-time baseball comfortably.

This coming Friday, August 24th, Standings will hold a "Chicagoland Blowout," starting at 6pm.  The bar will have four different Goose Island brews on tap and free pizza.  At 9:40pm, the Cubs game versus the Diamondbacks will be shown.  As bad luck would have it, I'll be out of town that night, but I encourage any of you fellow NYC BCBers to pay Standings a visit.

Thanks
That's really cool.  I'm going to check out that bar at some point in maybe September.  Don't know many...or really any Cubs fans in NY.

NYC
I'm a New Yorker who's a big Cubs fan, and I have a really good friend here who's also one.  He's about to go on the road for a long stretch, though, and I work at night, so I have to follow games for the most part via my iPhone these days.  But maybe if circumstances are right we could meet up so you won't feel so far away from Cubs fans in the Big Apple.

will try
to actually check this place out. I have been looking for a cubs bar in ny for a while now. I watched the 2003 playoffs in a mets bar where most everyone were rooting for the cubbies. This would be really cool.
The Cubs lost the 1984 pennant on my 9th Birthday. Top That!

friday
I've been to Standings a number of times to catch the cubs- John Q is right.  I hope to get down there on Friday with the added Goose Island bonus, plus the routine Friday free pizza deal there.

I have a satalite dish in the West Village
So I usually stay home and watch them. Also the Riveria on
7th & 4th in the West Village is a Red Sox bar that will run the
Cubs if you ask nice.

Nice!
My friend recently procured digital cable, and it looks quite nice on his HD projection setup (110" diagonal).  That works well for the FOX and ESPN and Mets games, but for the rest I'm on MLB.tv on my laptop.

I don't have HD
My set is 20 years old. The thing is my other passion is old movies and in some cases very old TV and black and white does not look good in HD. My apartment is tiny so no room for two TV sets.
I doubt there are a lot of folks in 3 floor walk ups with their own dish but landord is an understanding Yankee fan so he had no objection when I had it put in about 8 years ago.

If I get my hovel cleaned up maybe we can have a Cubs fan
game watching. I already have a few Cub fan friends who come
over from time to time.

Well, Next Year is here .. and Jack's century's gotta end some time .. GO CUBBIES!

Thanks for the offer
but I don't want HD . Per above it is bad for Black and White
which I love.
