Jim Belushi
Not only a Cubs fan in real life, but in a lot of the movies he is in he is either wearing a cubs shirt, hat, or part of the plot has to do with the cubs (Takin Care of Business...the movie Mark Grace also cameos in).

by AndHart120 on Aug 23, 2007 8:34 AM CDT reply actions

I'm embarrased
that Jim Belushi is associated with the Cubs.  That guy is a babbling buffoon and does not represent the Cubs or Chicago well.  You guys have forgotten someone who the Cubs have always welcomed to Wrigley and all Cub events and is probably the classiest Cubs fan, Tom Dreesen.  Every time he's in the booth you can't help but think what a nice guy he is.

Belushi
Sounds like the people who throw garbage on the field.

Tom Dreesen
Tom Dreesen is a class act. I was living in L.A. at the time when I was playing in a softball league and my brother and I wore our Cubs jerseys. Tom happened to be at the park and he came up to me and my brother and introduced himself to us and we had a nice conversation about the Cubs and Chicago. A very down to earth guy with no big Hollywood ego.

Only one problem
I'm admittedly not a big TV or movie guy, but I have no idea who Tom Dreesen is.

by TC Cubby on Aug 24, 2007 7:48 AM CDT up reply actions

Tom Dreesen
is a comedian and was for years Frank Sinatra's opening act.  He's still a comedian and now mostly spends his time playing in celebrity golf tournaments and motivational speaking engagements.

Oh c'mon
why so hostile? Up until a few years ago, the guy still had a house in Bucktown.

by San Diego Smooth Jazz Man on Aug 23, 2007 3:35 PM CDT up reply actions

But at least
Bill Murray is funny.  Belushi tries to play up the persona way too much.  IMO Murray was probably just strolling down the street not making a big fuss when he got pulled over.  Yes he was drunk, but he most like wasn't hanging out of the golf cart throwing eggs at people.

I know that Journey
did the stretch at Wrigley a few years back (with then lead singer Steve Augeri) but as far as Steve Perry goes, i think his appearance in the 05 World Series answers that one.

After looking at that pathetic Sox list...
I think Jordan is a fan of both teams myself. Of course, when he attempted to play baseball he played for the Sox but at the same time you have Reinsdorf, the owner of the Bulls, also owning the Sox. Probably makes it WAY easier to work with, and also a great suck up!

Either way, i cant think about Jordan being a Sox fan. Liked him way too much (just like everyone else did) to think of him that way.

by AndHart120 on Aug 23, 2007 8:38 AM CDT reply actions

Jeff Garlin
is a big Cub fan. Billy Corgan is a Cub fan, but claims to root for the Sox, as well. Of course Eddie Vedder (who even wrote a Cubs Song, which someone posted in a diary here not long ago) is a huge Cub fan. Gary Sinise, i think...those are the few that I know...

Yeah
Sounds pretty Bisoxual to me... and Reinsdorf is a dick for not wanting to give him the tickets if you ask me, we had to deal with Bernie Mac!

re: Yeah
Yep, Cusack is an avowed bisoxual. He's also prone to taking the leads in really lame romantic comedies, and that recent horror flick of his was no winner either. But I digress...

Riverhawks
Hey Drew - I was in Rockford last October and did the "left field lounge" thing.  Nice new park but the baseball (ahem) leaves a bit to be desired.

Is the city warming up to them?  Is there still a minor league team playing across town (used to be the Expos I think?)?

I grew up in Belvidere...haven't lived up there in a long, long time....but remember going to watch baseball in the hood.

by iluvryno on Aug 23, 2007 9:17 AM CDT up reply actions

I think the city likes having
the Riverhawks around.  Rockford has very deep roots in the history of baseball.  Right now the Riverhawks are the only minor league team in town.  The Rockford Expos became the Rockford Royals in 1993, then they became the Rockford Cubbies in 1995, then they became the Rockford Reds in 1999.  Unfortunately, the franchise was moved to Dayton in 2000.

I enjoy the new stadium too, but I enjoyed the old Marinelli Stadium more because it was downtown and closer to my house. Incidently, I complianed to Riverhawks owner Dave Ciarrachi (who is a close friend of Al's) about the location, but he told me people in the new area have more disposal income, hense the need to build a new standium instead of renovate Marinelli. This makes sense, but that old hood part of town is slowly undergoing a transformation for the positive.  The city counsel considers it a "gateway" so more tax dollars are directed that direction.

So there you have it...more information about Rockford than I'm sure you wanted to know.  :)

Joe Mantegna
If memory serves, was he not in the original "Bleacher Bums"?

I actually went to school with another original cast member, long ago.  (No, I'm not saying which one!)

Joe
was in the original Bleacher Bums. I saw it on public TV many years ago. Do you know if that is available on tape or DVD? I would love to have a copy of that. I've seen live performances of it but none come close to the original.

also is contemplating becoming a two sport athlete and becoming the Cubs starting right fielder just for this postseason as he sees we need the assistance there.  In fact the other day "baby jesus" visited Kerry Wood in his home and touched his shoulder and said there would be no more injuries to this hampered shoulder, then in a flash he was off to help feed children in Africa because he had to make it back that night for the preseason game against the Colts and let Peyton Manning know that he was not mad at him, he was p*ssed!  LMAO.

Don't make me break out the Iowa jokes.....
Knowing that the Iowa QB is a Cubs fan will only make me hope the Illini knock his head off in a kinder gentler manner.

And no "Illini" digs.  I know their defense is atrocious and if they even SEE the other teams QB this year it'll be as he's running through their secondary.

I am what I am.  A Cubs fan (yea!!) and an Illini =(
